my poodle almost died because of being fed Save-A-Lot canned lamb and Rice with gravy, so i took him off of it and he got well. i put him on Purina Beneful dry food two weeks ago, now he is getting diarrhea and it has to be the change. I don't feed him any other kind of foods.

Does any one know or has anyone heard about any pet food recall for Purina Beneful dry dog foods?

It hasn't been recalled, but is likely the source of the diarrhea. It's a corn based food and is more like junk food than actual nutrition for dogs.

A sudden change in food will cause the dog to have stomach upset and even diarrhea for a while. That's normal. Ask your vet about how to best help. My vet suggests a peptobismol tablet - but I give just one for my 100+ pound dogs ...a poodle would surely need far less.

Sav-A-Lot canned food IS on the list, but so far no dry foods. Purina has begun recalling some canned foods - but again, no dry.

Peace, hon.

Never switch feed without doing it gradually. Purina Beneful is NOT recalled, so don't worry. If he continues with the diarrhea for longer than 3 more days, take him to a vet..

http://www.menufoods.com/recall/ This is the site that lists all the pet food that's been recalled. So far it's all wet food (canned and pouch food). Switching to a new food or treat before the pet has been weened into it by adding old food to new food (if the old food didn't make the pet sick to begin with) will help them to not get so sick. Having two dogs myself, I understand your concern and have been through it myself. If it's just diarhea and not bloody diarhea or the dog not eating or drinking anything as well which are reasons to take the dog to the vet asap, you shouldn't worry. Give it a few weeks, he'll get used to it and return to normal. If it continues to the point where you can't stop worrying, take him to the vet and maybe try switching dog food again. I use Nutro, my personal choice because of research.

There were no dry foods in the recall.

You may want to consider that the food you have been feeding your dog isn't really good for the poor thing.

Purina Beneful is filled with corn, soy, and other fillers that dogs can't digest. This is probably what your problem is.

Best bet is to go to the PURINA website and see what they say and you can call them from the site.

Otherwise here is a site that lists all the recalls...

The recall only applies to wet food either in cans or foil packets, that are chunks and gravy. No dry food has been recalled.

You can go to msnbc.com and also www.menufoods.com/recall that is the site of the company with the recall I think it's only Eukanuba, Iams, and Nutro and I think it's only wet foor but you might want to double check. When we change our dogs food we have to gradually do it and they always get the runs in the beginning, but 2 weeks I don't know.

Its probably the change of food however you should take him to the vet to be sure. Only wet food is on the list so far, no dry food.
