Ambien is addictive; but seroquel (an antipsychotic) is far more dangerous. All the antipsychotics can cause in certain cases permanent nerve damage known as tardive dyskenesia. One other option is Trazadone. It is an antidepressant that is fairly safe and that makes you sleepy. They never ended up using it as an antidepressant because the effective dose would make the person taking it very drowsy. But, it will put you to sleep. The only problem I've had with it, is grogginess in the morning. It's possible that that wears off the longer you use it.

I have worked in a pharmacy for nearly 10 years. Do not cut the Ambien in half. Ambien CR has a controlled release mechanism...If you must take the medication, take it exactly as prescribed by the physician. If you find it to be too strong, call the office tomorrow and ask them for something less potent. Good Luck!
