It enhances flavor of the blend of veggies. It doesn't have to be full of calories and fat.

Actually you don't need it. It always just sinks to the bottom and then the veggies at the bottom end up drenched.
What is a great idea is to add belgian endives to it which have a slightly bitter flavour when ripe, and a great crunch, and then use a light dressing of lemon zest (not the actual lemon's juice), salt, pepper, honey and olive oil to any salad.

the point is to bring more flavors into a salad,to compliment the salad.and do we always have to count calories??unless you are not to overweight,just live a Little and enjoy the good things in life;)

the purpose of salad dressing [to me anyways] is just so the lettuce isn't so dry. possibly to add flavor too

I agree. I prefer to add a little lemon juice and olive oil. Just a bit to enhance the flavour of the vegetables, not cover it.

It is for people who need more taste to their food. It just adds more calories to the salad but i think it is yummy.
