The only reason vinegar eases the pain of a sunburn is that it's a cool liquid. You get just as much benefit from cool water, and you don't smell like salad dressing for hours afterward.
Whatever you use to treat your burn, make certain it is not oil based (most lotions and many creams are oil based) - that will just drive the burn deeper.

No. Vinegar is an acid. If anything it will increase or exacerbate the burn. Butter does not help either, it just adds to the frying process. Only water will help a burn. Some medications may take away the sting.

Yes vinegar cools the area & will help take some pain away-it doesn't smell that great but it does work. Take a cool shower to reduce the burn and PAT vinegar on DO NOT RUB ON u will only irritate if rubbed through. feel better xo Donna P

I've heard that it does. I've never tried it myself. Vinegar is effective on insect bites and jellyfish stings. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try it.
You're better off using a high SPF sunscreen to prevent getting burned in the first place. I use SPF 50 because I'm so fair.

tried it once and to me it seemed to make it burn/sting worse. Try canned milk that has been chilled. It draws the heat out as it drys and conditions the damaged skin at the same time preventing peeling
