DIETING:

You need to LOWER your calorie intake to BELOW your activity level (Which is somewhere between 1500 & 2500 calories a day… at your age.) Your calorie intake should NEVER be below 1000.

Usually people lose 1/2 pound a week... the amount you lose depends on more than just your diet... it depends on how overweight you are too.

The secret to being successful is to NOT over restrict or over supplement your diet--do not add in carbs (potatoes, breads, sugars) to make up for fats (meats, nuts, cheeses, oils, etc)--also, make sure that ANY diet includes PLENTY of veggies, esp green leafy ones and protein. Your body REALLY needs these. (Besides… fruits & veggies are low to lower calorie and they are filling.)

WHAT TO EAT WHEN:
NO sugar drinks… Coke, Pepsi, Root Beer, etc. If you have a cola problem… drink diet. Cutting sugar drinks from your diet can cut 10-20 lbs a year off.

Eat within 30 minutes of waking up. I know…. Skipping breakfast seems normal… the thing is, your body NEEDS calories tight away so that it can kick start your metabolism.

Stick to proteins (nuts, beef jerkies, eggs, etc) in the AM & at lunch
~~this will kick start your metabolism & provide you long lasting energy all day

If possible--make LUNCH your "big" meal of the day.... and make it low on simple carbs (white bread, rice, pastas, etc)

Make dinner a small "lunch sized" portion... this is where you can eat your carbs... just don’t go crazy.... since you are eating less carbs, when you do eat them your body may go into the "soar/crash" mode... if you limit carbs to evening, then you will "crash" when you should be going to bed...

SNACKS: are important. Keep fresh fruits, bite sized fresh veggies, roasted nuts, & beef/meat jerkies around... at home AND at work...

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT DIETING:
EXCERSIZE is important too. (My Dr would KILL me if I didn’t mention that...)

Eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, & snacks--eating small amounts all day is actually MORE effective for dieting

DO NOT reduce your intake to below 1000-1200 calories a day without talking to your doctor

DRINK PLENTY of fluids--especially water—Do NOT drink juices. It seems healthy…. But all you get is empty calories… its kinda like drinking colas.

SET GOALS: set goals in terms of weight loss & size loss--and live by them!

Fat is larger, but weighs less, than looser... DONT PANIC

Do NOT weigh in too often--studies have found that people who weigh in more often lose less weight & are more likely to do unhealthy things to lose weight--

I personally alternate between weighing in and measuring... before I started dieting I wrapped pieces of curling ribbon around my waste, hips, upper arm, & thigh and cut them to length. Now I weigh in once a month and measure once a month... When I weigh in I CHART/RECORD my progress (in terms of LOSS... not how much is left to go.) Every time I measure I wrap new pieces or ribbon (different colors). I then hang the original ribbons with the new ribbons... those are REALLY good visual indicators of what your weight loss MEANS...

Instead of snacking on dangerous meals like chips and chocolate, substitute them with healthful ones like almonds or raisins. But do not reduce your favorite meals absolutely from your nutrition, you can simply crave them extra. What I do is that if I rather desire a few chocolate, for illustration, I consume a small piece within the morning (then you might have the leisure of the day to burn it off). And you'll be able to consume small foods an afternoon in spite of university! If your academics will let you consume at school, deliver in a few fruit or whatever for mornings and afternoons. And if now not, you'll be able to continually do it within the afternoon. My favorite quote for healthful consuming is: "Breakfast for a king, lunch for a queen, and dinner for a pauper." Meaning, consume a giant breakfast to fill you up for university, deliver a medium lunch to university to maintain you by way of the day, and consume a small dinner whilst you get house. I'm completely happy you are shopping to upgrade your nutrition and now not simply consume much less. Your present pastime events sounds pleasant. Good paintings!

Here is a website with some good info. It teaches the science and practice of losing fat. It teaches about nutrition and exercise. It also has a sample meal plan, weekly workouts, and a basal metabolic rate estimator. Put in your weight and percentage body fat and hit "Estimate". It will estimate your lean mass and metabolic rate along with your caloric requirements.
