My cat on the farm had her litter of four where everyone could see her, then al the suddent he next morning, they were gone.
I followed her for a while trying to listen for the kittens, but couldn't hear anything. I wouldn't worry too much. Her kittens came out once they were big enough. She did lose one kitten, but the other three were fine.
On place people don't check in their house is IN furniture. My friends cat tore open the bottom of her matress and clibed up inside. You may also want to check couches and arm chairs that have that thin material at the bottom.
Most of the time kittens won't call out until they either smell or feel their mother move in their nesting area. One littler I found only because i stuck my hand between to straw bales. I was just checking random gaps, and a soon as I stuck my hand in the hole, the kittens vocalized. Shows you how well their mother has them trained to be quiet.
Hope this helps. When the mothers ready she'll bring you to them to show them off.

I dont want to scare you...and I dont know if its the same for cats and dogs, but my ex-boyfriend had a dog that gave birth to a litter of pups. It was small litter only 2 came out. One was stillborn, and the other seemed ok. The mother tried to nibble on the puppy's leg but we stopped her and we just assumed that she was trying to lick the puppy but didnt realize she was being too rough.
The next day we left the house to go to the store, when we came back we wouldnt find the puppy. We looked everywhere and my boyfriend said that sometimes animals will eat their young if they sense that they are sick. We called a vet to confirm this, and the vet said that it is possible.
We never found the puppy or a body, so we assume that the vet was right.

She probably won't go to them if she knows you're just going to follow her. Be patient and keep looking. I'm sure she probably just hid them. When my cat had kittens she did that all the time.

Im guessing that if shes not searching for her babies, she probably knows there dead, shes a bad mother cat, cats confused, or the babies escaped, and last the cat moved them to a safer location. I sure hope there OK. Sometimes things are in places you will never suspect. I found my $20 dollars in my baby sisters shoe!

you violated the mother cat's space and she in turn moved the kittens cause she thinks you might harm her babies..she knows exactly where the kittens are..just leave them alone till they are ready to come out....

I am sure your cat hid them just look in quiet dark places like cloeset your cabinets. Does your cat go outside? If so you need to go looking out there. look in like hall closets places like that

She likely didn't feel safe where the kittens were and she hid them... Check closets and dresser drawers, etc.

If you pick them up the mother may have moved them and they are very good at hiding them!! Sit and watch her for a awhile but don't let her think you are! and she should lead you straight to them. unless you do not handle the mother i do not think she will abandoned them.

She probably hid them - cats are REALLY good at hiding. If your cats go outside...well, then you should really watch them better because they could have escaped. But if they're indoor-only, they're probably okay.
