And they dont have to obey them any longer? And others still must be obeyed. How is it that they can pick out certain ones for obeying and certain others for not obeying? How is it decided which is to be obeyed and which is not?

Jesus Christ did not come to do away with the Law--he came to fulfill the Law. If you believe the new Testament If you do not accept the Savior of the New Testament that is were it ends. If your religion states that the Messiah has not come, then you need to trust your belief--if you have no God then you won't understand because you have no faith.

There's a difference between the Jewish law, and the word of God.

The Jewish people were/are a separate set of people, chosen by God, to do....what they did. The end result was Jesus. Who fulfilled the law.

However, to the gentiles (everybody *not* a Jew), we/they had no law of such. We had our own laws. Which pretty much served the same purpose. It'd be ridiculous to push CULTURE instead of TRUTH. Culture is not a sin.

It's like being a proper, law abiding, American citizen. Adjusted to the society that you live in. As good of person as you are able to be. With the love of God in your heart. Then being moved to China. Which is completely different than America. But, oh, this is what you have to do in order to make it to heaven. That's ridiculous. Nothing against China.

There were something like 250 Jewish laws. From the way you dressed to how you cut your food. The disciples themselves had trouble with this.

The law you need to worry about is this: "You shall love your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and all your mind. You shall love your neighbor as yourself". If you do those things, you will live within the law.

on a side note: People always take what they want from the bible and then throw away what they don't want. However it's convienient for them. That way they can be free of guilt, while not really making any real changes or sacrifice.

Dear Betty,

There were laws that were written in the Old Testament that were for that particular group of people. For example many of the laws found in Leviticus were for sanitary reasons. There were certain animals that weren't eaten because they were considered un-kosher.

There were other laws that the coming of Jesus fulfilled. For example people used to have to make sacrifices for their sins by sacrificing lamb- Jesus was sacrificed upon the cross- so there is no longer a need for people to offer animals on an offer to pay for their sins.

There is a principal in interpretting the Bible called latter revelation which means that things found in the New Testament which replace previous teachings are to be followed (ie: the example i gave you with the meat earlier).

The Bible says Jesus fulfilled many of the laws and prophets. The purpose of obeying the laws was to get close to God, and Jesus says if you obey and know me you'll know God.

Ie: The ten commandments are still all very relevant today. Jesus said that there are now two easy commandments to follow: 1) Love God with all your heart, soul and strength. 2) Love your neighbor as yourself.

In that way- we don't have hundred and thousands of commandments to follow. We can simply ask is that action loving to God, and others? IE: Some of the commandments don't covet your neighbor's wife, honor your mother and father?

Is it pleasing to God? Is it loving towards others?

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

OLD & NEW Testament..A testament is like a agreement or a will. The new one does away with the old one. We are under the NEW Testament and many of the old laws are done away with. Animal sacrafices for one, if we were to keep on sacraficing lambs for our annual sin offering, by doing that we would be rejecting the sacrafice of the Lamb of God Jesus. So a Christian can not do that.
We have churches now days and not synagogs or we would be Jews and live under the OLD Testament like some of them do.
People in the OLD testament were never called Christians, that is completely a NEW testament term..
If you are dying to keep the 10 commandments most of them were repeated in the NEW Testament.
WE didn't decide, God did when he made the NEW Testament with us..

Jesus predicted the top of the regulation. …confident, Jesus mentioned he didn’t come to break the regulation, yet to fulfill it, (Matthew 5:17) yet this does not recommend THE regulation continues to be IN result. the effect substitute into the comparable, as quickly as fulfilled, the regulation substitute into now not in result. The very next verse, Matthew 5:18, looks forward to the time while the regulation may be set aside. "...not even the smallest stroke of a pen will disappear from the regulation till each little thing is accomplished." This “till” clause REINFORCES THE non everlasting NATURE OF THE regulation. It in simple terms is clever after we comprehend that the regulation substitute into meant FROM the commencing to be set aside. of direction this suits completely with Paul’s later coaching: Ephesians 2:15 by using his physique on the bypass, Christ positioned an end to the regulation WITH ALL ITS instructions AND regulations. He had to create one new team of human beings out of the two. He had to make peace between them. Colossians 2:14, sixteen, &21 (excerpts) He wiped out the written regulation with its regulations. The regulation substitute into against us. It antagonistic us. He took it away and nailed it to the bypass… no person may be made good with God by means of obeying the regulation.... What if a individual ought to alter into good with God by means of obeying the regulation? Then Christ died for not something!

See Matthew 5: 17- 20. In Matthew 4-6 Jesus calls Christians to follow the OT law and also the law He talks about in the rest of the Sermon on the Mount. The Old Testament laws mostly deal with outward actions, like murder. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus says that we are to continue keeping the laws that came strait from God like the Ten Commandments but He adds to them. For example He says "You have heard it said...(insert OT law here) But I tell you... (law that pertains to the thoughts of the heart).

I hope that helps... also check out www.ccofmodesto.com and listen to the sequential sermons about the Sermon on the Mount.

God Bless!

Those who lean unto there own understanding of scripture are leading others astray and blinded by their "pride!" But this has to occur for the Kingdom of God is coming to this earth and establish His way as the only way.

Pride is man's downfall. The End of the circle of man's self rule will be the beginning of Christ's Kingdom but that "pride" must be broken first!

OLD (testament) law overridden by NEW(testament) Grace. Why is it that non-believers don't get it? Saying that we (Christians) are saved by grace doesn't give you permission to go break every rule God ever made. See, Christian MEANS Christ-like...So, IF you are going to profess to be like Him, you're probably going to want to follow what His Father said, too.

Ladies are allowed to go to church while on their montly now days,lol-- so somethings have changed! but they need to understand, that the 10 commandments came from the O.T, yet we still have to follow them! It depends on what suits the individual i expect. Christians cannot even agree amongst themselves what they should follow and what not to.
