hello i was wondering if anyone has a child with ADHD and about there sleep pattern . my son has a horible sleep pattern ever since he started taking adderal xr 10mg.and my doctor prescribed Clonidine.

I am not comfortable giving him something that is usaly prescribed to someone with high blood preasure.Even at 0.1MG. And that may couse harm to him if suddenly stoped .

She also suggested melatonin . I know it's erbal . But i have read not to give this to children under 12. And she did not suggest a dosage type. But my son is only 5 .

Dose anyone have any advise on what i should do. He really needs his rest at night . He wont fall asleep till 12 or 1 in the morning . I wake him up evryday at the same time between 8:30 and 9:00 AM . And i give him his Aderrall by 9:30 right after breakfast. I put him in bed at 9 in the evening . i have even tried laying in bed with him and i have fallen asleep before him.

Please can someone help

Thanks.

Mary

There's a natural way to train a child to focus, which my child's counselor told me about. Have the child focus on something ie... a spot on the wall (not a clock) and time how long he is able to stare at it without diverting his eyes. Do this a few times a day and watch as he is able to increase his time. The younger you start the better. Most doctors don't want you to know about this because they get a kick back everytime you get a prescription refilled.

I give my son Melatonin he has ADHD. I have been giving it to him since he was three a neurologist recommended it. It works well. I also recently switched him from Adderall to daytraina (the patch) It works so much better with less side effects. His sleep is also better.
My son was on clonadine before Adderall and it made him sleep, he was asleep or awake and hyper. it causes many problems.

All children are different and react differently to medications. You, your child and his Dr are the best people to make decisions about his meds. Don't blindly trust the Dr. Dr's often have to experiment and try many things to get the one that works the best.

Anyone interested in becoming a parent should read your question. If you don't want the bother of dealing with children maybe you should opt for a houseplant or a Chia Pet.

You could try taking your child off of the meds and making sure he has physical activity daily.
