Okay, are you afraid that they'll laugh at you? You're family is there to support you, maybe they'll make a joke or two, well, because that's what families do.
If you want to get over this "stage fright" you don't have to practice in front of an audience, because that doesnt always help. What you can do is, first sing alone. Then sing with your eyes closed, only opening them once in a while. Then, sing to one member of your family at a time. I know it may seem like you're gonna be doing it a lot. Then gather all your friends and family and sing to them. It may be scary, But you'll have fun. The best part of singing to a family member alone is that if they make fun of you, nobody will be there to see it. But don' t always take them so seriously, they're just trying to be funny - and who knows, maybe they're a little jealous!
If singing really is your passion, then nobody will make fun of you. They'll realize that you're good and they'll give you positive feedback! Always hope for the best! Good Luck! :]

Every time I sang solo I just got it through my head that eventually it would be over. Think of it from the audience's point of view. When your in an audience and watching people sing, do you really think about their singing? One word of advice, if your friends and your sister believe you are a good singer, then you are! Also get into your "zone". Imagine you are alone and singing to yourself or concentrate on one person or thing and everyone around you will seem like there not there.

Hello Melody:)
I am sorry that you have this problem - stage freight is really common though, so you should not feel alone. As a singer (and voice teacher) myself - I find it's easier to perform if I am "playing" the character. If I am in a show - I really get into the character and what she is doing. If I am singing in a solo setting, I try to really focus on telling the "story" of the music. When I am thinking about these things, I am not worried so much about "how's my voice? Did I get that note right? Is everyone starring at me?" and it helps me to relax and get into the music.
I wish you much luck at your next performance:)

Once of the best ways to get over stage fright is to practice performing in front of people. (The best thing my teacher ever did for me was make me attend "studio classes" where I HAD to perform in front of other students EVERY SINGLE WEEK! I hated it, but after two years of playing in front of people, it got easier).

I'd also suggest you read a book called The Inner Game of Music by Barry Green. (It might be at your local library). He write a lot about how to overcome stage fright and find joy in performing. (You can read some of his stuff at his website http://www.innergameofmusic.com/ )

Finally, please know that singing in front of family is one of the most difficult things you can do. (I never perform for my parents, and know lots of professionals who get much more nervous when family is in the audience).

It's not easy, but it is very possible.
Good Luck Melody!

Hi Melody.
You should try voice acting that way you are only standing in forn of many four people tops.
And if you have to sing in public try to close your eyes and imagine that you are the only one there
Hope this helps
