with their spinal cord? Or their cerebrum?

They are the same thing scientifically speaking. As "microevolution" adds up, it turns into macroevolution. This process is called speciation.

I wonder if ID is just a last ditch attempt to conform to more obvious aspects of science. It even presents itself as a theory, lol. The death throes of Fundamentalism...

lol that's the problem with IDists, they use flawed "reasoning" instead of facts.

What I found most interesting about this question was how some people answered it. Some of the creationist answers proved what "icarus62" said that they are showing pure ignorance of the facts that support Evolutionary Biology, but in addition to this many of them are proving that they do not even understand science in that some of their claims have nothing to do with Biology at all.

One needs only to look up common definitions of Micro and Macroevolution in dictionaries and encyclopedias to see that Macroevolution is nothing more than Microevolution adding up over long periods of time and that if one accepts Microevolution than they HAVE to accept Macroevolution (citations given). If one accepts that speciation occurs (and if you do a quick check of creationist literature, including Young Earthers, than you find they do accept speciation) than you must also accept Macroevolution since the evolution of a new species is considered a Macroevolutionary change.

The other interesting aspect of this question is the part about IDers. Intelligent Design actually says that the Universe and Earth are BILLIONS of years old and that life has evolved on the earth over the last 4 billions years just as is theorized by Evolutionary Biologists. Where IDers differ from the scientifically accepted reality is to make a theological claim that a designer (almost always a deity and usually God) either started or is involved in this process. So in essence ID is nothing more than Evolution with the addition of a supernatural guiding force than therefore fails Occam's Razor.

Next there are is the absolute ignorant statements that prove an absolute misunderstanding of the REAL scientific ideas presented by Evolutionary Biology that are put forward by "Erin" and "W J".
First "Erin" proves that she does not understand that Dogs and Cats are not only different species, but are not even in the same Family or the same Suborder. They are in the same Order, Carnivora, which also includes Seals, Sea Lions, the Walrus, Raccoons, the Weasels, Skunks, Pandas, Bears, Mongooses, Hyenas, and Civets. This means that ALL of the types of Mammals just mentioned are related to each other from ONE common ancestral group. It also proves that "Erin" does not understand that genetic changes lead to contingencies in subpopulations as to what genes are expressed, hidden, or lost. Lost genes do not reappear and so a population of Dogs can NEVER give rise to something that we would call a Cat. Once the population that gave rise to all of the Order of Carnivora started to split up because of subpopulation natural selection the contingency of their genetic make up made it next to impossible for their to be any recombination, hence the early population of what became "dogs" and the other population that became "cats" could not breed again and would just keep becoming less and less similar to each other (even though ALL Carnivora species have some similar characteristics that where inherited from one common ancestral population).
I will pray (yes I am a Christian) that “Erin” uses the intellect given to her by God to learn about how science works and what the reality is about Evolutionary Biology so she can break her brainwashed state evidently induced by creationist lies, propaganda, and misinformation.

Next we come to “W J” who makes the most common mistakes based on creationist lies; that science can say anything about the existence or non-existence of God. Once anyone makes such a claim they have exited the realm of science and are into the realm of theology. Evolutionary Biology is based only in natural processes and fact based evidence and so cannot “phase out” God since God is not limited by nature. “W J” also states that “it is only (sic) theory” which proves another creationist deception into what a theory is in science. Gravity is a theory, that the Earth goes around the Sun is a theory (Heliocentrism), and the way in which your computer works or that Light is coming from those glass bulbs over your head is also a theory (electromagnatism), BUT all of these theories explain observed facts. The observed facts that the farther down in the geological column one goes we find that groups of organisms show a nested hierarchy of relationship, that this correlates with evidence from comparative morphology, embryology, and genetics, and that these also correlate with the observations from plate tectonics all add up to a set of theories know under the general term Evolutionary Biology. One of the most important of the theories that make up Evolutionary Biology is the theory of Natural Selection (aka Adaptive Differential Reproduction) which is used to explain how small changes can add up over time and lead to new populations that are similar to their ancestors, but also more similar to one another given where the population has existed and what natural forces have influenced that populations reproductive strategies.
It sounds like “W J” has also been able to explain his misunderstanding about the reality of this scientific theory: He has been lied to so often by creationists that he believes their lies. As scientists we have had to constantly point out why the SAME OLD LIES that creationist leaders are using are incorrect that it draws away from how Evolutionary Biology is constantly growing, every day with each new discovery. If the followers of these creationists deceivers, like “W J” and “Erin” would just start looking at the newest discoveries in Evolutionary Biology they would quickly learn that what they have been brainwashed with are concepts that died in the 1850’s, 1900’s and 1950’s.

Wake up and smell the reality!!!

there is no clean distinction on while microevolution will become macroevolution. some speciation activities (e.g. chromosomal fusion) haven't any exchange in genetic innovations content cloth, purely distribution. that is purely as quickly as the two new populations have diverged via loss of elementary alleles and the construction of novel alleles which you will possibly qualify the amassed ameliorations as macroevolution. on the different severe, 2 or extra remoted populations might advance dissimilar unique alleles without dropping the skill to interbreed. interior the case of a few communities of close to-species, it ought to seems that inhabitants A can breed with B, B with C, C with D, etc. inspite of this, A won't be able to breed with E, or maybe D. those "ring species" are extra or less on the final definition of the micro / macro definition. For some thing that must be macro, you prefer some thing that for sure make the two populations diverse. in maximum circumstances, that is not likely to be a single large experience which includes a diploid plant transforming into a tetraploid plant. you're searching for for extensive scale genetic shifts that are a selection of single activities that is seen microevolution on their own. that is because of the fact there is no real micro/macro barrier. the nice and cozy button is that the debate isn't real. maximum data for microevolution isn't data for macroevolution. we can see single steps in remoted populations extra fairly.

As in what is the HIV virus constantly doing so that it's eluded vaccines that work consistently? Isn't "spontaneous mutation" or "adaptation to a hostile environment" key components of evolution?
Now, is there any reason to think it doesn't happen with larger creatures over greater expanses of time besides dogma? No. Pure biology is not the only thing that backs up evolution. Check out genetics. Check out archeology and anthropology.
And just how do the crazies explain dinosaurs fitting onto Noah's Ark?

You have some really smart words there but it doesn't add up to a smart thought- sorry. Micro evolution is change within a population. Macro evolution is defined as evolutionary change at the species level or higher, that is, the formation of new species, new genera, and so forth.

Um- it doesn't matter how many changes within the population of dogs- it never adds up to a cat. You're reasoning stinks.

Thank You!!
I have thins fundementalist at my work trying to convince me that Noah's arc held every animal in the world because there were only a handfull and that they later evolved after the water recieded. But Heaven forbid he say that he belives in Evolution!
Yes the "fundies" are loosing support in a big way.
Thanks again, you made my day!

Not endorsed by the elite of scientists. The only people who believe this are those who have an agenda to "phase out " God. There is absolutely no evidence to support this, it is only theory. "Show me the money", as they say.Obvious? Guess Hitler was right in saying, " If you say anything loud and often enough, people will believe it."

Fundies will do ANYTHING to try to get their propaganda into schools, politics, and society in general.

Bad fundies! BAD!!!!

I'm not sure why "intelligent design" seems to fly under the radar in many school systems.

To me, "intelligent design" sounds a lot like what happens during cosmetic surgery.

It doesn't matter how many changes within a population of wolves - they'll never add up to a dog, will they?
