I found the advice in "Potty Training for Dummies" very helpful. People laugh at the title but it is really a great resource. The only other thing I would stress is no pull-ups. Real pants or panties. And lots and lots of praise.

Potty parties worked for me. I got the idea from Dr. Phil and my little boy was trained in less than a day. Get some sort of doll or stuffed animal and put some underwear on it. Take it to the bathroom frequently, pull down the underwear and pretend that it is going to the potty. When the doll has "finished" using the bathroom, put party hats on and blow noisemakers. Make a big fuss over the doll going to the bathroom and give it a lot of praise. Do this repeatedly throughout the day. Eventually, your child will want to get the same kind of attention that the doll is getting and will go to the potty on their own. Make sure that when they do go to the bathroom successfully that you put the party hats on, blow the noisemakers and give your child a lot of praise.

Maehotma: I don't think you are going to get a guarantee with potty training. My daughter trained herself. I was given a potty chair and I brought it home and put it in the bathroom. My daughter was only 8 months old at the time but she was walking holding onto things and was crawling like a little fiend. One day I was using the bathroom and she tried to take her own diaper off and get on the potty chair. I helped her get it off and she plopped her little self down. After that she just started using it and by the time she was l3/l4 months old was completely out of diapers. My sisters daughter was 3 years old and still wearing diapers. She even learned to change them herself!! When my parents were going to come to Florida to visit me they offered my niece to take her to Disney but said they were not dragging a kid in diapers around. She trained herself that same day-lol/ I guess my advice is that you have to wait until the child is ready. And when the child sees a value in using the toilet instead of the diaper then the rest is a piece of cake. Good Luck to you -k-
