They have every right to doubt your parenting skills; you're still a child yourself. I hope you're more interested what's best for your child rather than doing what you want just because you want to do it. Remember, this baby is a human being, not just some object to be selfishly fought over just because you had it first. The best thing for you to do right now is to prove to the mother's parents with your actions that you are responsible enough to handle raising a child and that you are truely concerened for the child's welfare so that they can be certain that you are fit to be the guardian of ther child.

Some things I would suggest you do ... after reading this post even!!
1. Contact a lawyer ASAP.
2. Do not drop out of school, if/when it goes to court - they can use that as proof that you are not a stable person.
3. Visit your local community center, you will find information on "new parents" classes that you can schedule for yourself and your girlfriend. It's always best to go together, this also shows a strong individual to courts.
4. Step up, you need to make sure you can do all of the above and work at being a parent. Anyone can father a child but it takes a real person to be a Parent to that child.

I am in PA and had my daughter at 17 here you are considered legally an adult and emancipated as soon as your child is born DO NOT LET THEM TAKE THAT CHILD if youa re able and willing to care for the baby do it i knew someone who was in a similar situation the parents took over and he hasnt seen his baby since the day it was born they have fought him tooth and nail and even had the baby "adopted" by another family member to keep him away this guy is now in his 20s and was always able to care for the baby

Keep all receipts showing what you have brought for the child.
Get a job. Start paying child support. Yes, it actually costs money to have a baby before it's born.
Take parenting classes.
Show that you're stepping up to the plate as a father, the court would appreciate that.
If you're not willing to do these things, then you're not serious. I think you can be just as good a parent as you decide to be.

I agree with everyone that you should talk to a lawyer. most important of all is to stay in school and if you don't already have a part time job...get one, and start helping to pay for things for the baby.
I think that you are taking the right step in admitting that the child is yours, there are a lot of teen-age boys that would deny that the child was theirs, because they don't want to be responsible.

I am not sure what the guide lines in Arkansas are but you need to make sure that you are there when she has that baby and you are on the birth certificate! your best bet is calling somewhere like your city- county building and speaking whith someone from child support division. ask questions, you will get your answers! God bless!

speaking as a young(i had my ari @ 20, he was 19), and very responsible, mom i am offended at the people who have suggested that you don't have a job, or that the grandparents have "a right to be concerned", GAY, STRAIGHT, YOUNG, OLD, MARRIED, AND SINGLE DO NOT DESCRIBE HOW GOOD A PARENT YOU WILL BE!!!
i don't have any advise reg. arkansas law, but i do wish you the best of luck!

I dont know your states laws, but I do know you have the right to contest this. Contact an attorney he will know what you need to do. Dont hesitate do it now. Also they have low income programs called legal aid. If I think of anything else I will e-mail me.
