Most of the giant breed dogs are calm for the most part. St. Bernards, Newfoundlands, Great Pyrenees are all pretty calm for the most part. I'm not sure about the Great Danes and Mastiffs but I think they are also pretty calm. My mom has a St. Bernard and she mostly just lays around all day. I also have a St. Bernard but she has a bit more energy than most Saints which is mostly due to growing up with other energetic dogs.

You could contact a rescue group. They can interview you and find the perfect dog for you that will fit best for your personality, needs, and living style. They find a match that fits both the dog and your needs... Otherwise any dog can be an indoor dog. If you want something not so energetic, then an older dog might be best. Puppies and very young dogs might be too much.

There is nothing more rewarding then rescuing a pet and giving another life a second chance.

Good luck.

every dog has it's own temperment and I would recommend getting an older dog that is not in that hyper "puppy stage" take a visit to your local animal shelter and see if you can find a dog that fits what your looking for. Even though you want to keep your dog inside make sure you still exercise the dog regularly. I have a whippet pit mix and he stays inside a lot because I live in an apartment but I still take him for 30 min walks every other day and he is so relaxed around the house. I don't believe one certain type of breed fits the description your looking for. Happy hunting for your new dog!

there are many large dogs that need homes . a dog needs a home that is a home for a dog. he needs to have runs off the leash . he needs to chase squirrels and rabbits swim run until he is really tired. this can be done if you don't even have a yard but you do have to have the time and the desire.
i suggest you go to the dog pound and adopt an older dog . one that is over one year old . save a dogs life and have a dog that already has some training.
If your not prepared to do this for the dog let him run get dirty be a dog then don't get one please.
as for a breed a mixed breed is the best . take each and every dog at the pound for a walk for one thing it may be there last walk ever and pick the one you like the best save that dogs life.

Depends on what type you want and if anybody in the house is allergic to dog hair. There are a lot of big dogs and most will need to be exercised and be played with. Check out the types on the link below

A large dog that would be good indoors and not alot of maintenance is a German Shepherd. They are friendly, good with children, and are very intelligent. They need to be taken for walks once in awhile, but they know how to stay fit and how much to eat, so they won't overeat and get fat.

I vote for greyhounds too. They call them the "40-mile-an-hour couch potatoes." They are so mellow they could be furniture. Just NEVER let them off lead and be sure anywhere they go out to run is fenced in. Greyhounds who are not rescued after their racing careers do NOT get a fair shake in return for their hard work and dedication.. the more we rescue, the better.

Everyone I know who's qualified for greyhound rescue (you need to tell them what kind of environment the dog will be in) has been super-delighted with their choice. You'll have a tv watching buddy for the rest of its life. Enjoy!

All large dogs need some form of exercise, which means getting outdoors every day at least for awhile. Greyhounds are actually very quiet, calm large dogs indoors but they do need to get out and be walked and exercised every single day.

If you go to this website, there is a little 'Q & A' thingy you can take that will recommend the breeds that fit your wants. Of course, a mixed breed of the suggested ones would be just fine too. Do consider a rescue doggie, they are usually great animals and have learned most of the basics before being abandoned.

Greyhounds are probably going to be the most laid-back "big" dog you can imagine. Great Danes, too, if you adopt an adult. ANY puppy you adopt will be energetic, so definitely go for an adult dog.

I always like to use petfinder.com because you can search by zip code and size!
