we recently had to put my almost 9 yr old ___terrior to sleep, and now it seems our 11 yr old chow/dalmation seems lonely, i dont think a puppy would be good but something around 5-7 yrs old we have a couple jack russel terriors i mind and some other type of terrior who is going through a local 4H training.
If you know a type of dog that would be good then that would be AWSOME

Some would say that is not a good idea to get another dog considering your dogs age. Older pets are harder to introduce to new dogs. But if you feel that your dog is lonely, I would consult your vet for advice and a rescue group. Rescue groups have all ages and breeds to work with and most of these dogs are pretty well socialized since they are being fostered with other homeless dogs.

I would recommend you contact a rescue group. You can take your dog with you and do a meet and greet and they can help you chose a dog that fits best for your dogs needs and temperment. Your dog can meet the other dog in a nuetral setting and you can see if they are a match!

Good luck, and deepest sympathies for the loss of your loved one. Its very hard losing a pet.

NONE...you have enough animals to keep a dog that age company. Chows are independent and don't want to be bothered. I hate to say it, but 11 years is old for any Chow mix. I've had Chow Chows for the last 10 years.

I am very sorry for the loss of your dog.

I suggest taking your Chow x Dal down to the local SPCA or shelter and let him interact with the dogs down there. Get the one that HE likes most.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I would recommend that you go to your local shelter and look for an adult dog of the opposite sex from your dog, either one with a similar energy level or one that is gentle and is highly socialized with other dogs. A puppy will often annoy an older dog. Find a shelter that will allow you to bring your dog in to meet & play with dogs that you're interested in, to make sure they get along well.

When my young dog died unexpectedly a few years ago leaving our older neutered male mixed-breed dog solo, I went to the local shelters looking for a spayed female that would be playful, to encourage our older dog to play, but gentle and submissive enough that she would respect him if he told her he didn't want to play, and not keep pestering him. The shelter had a fenced yard for us to bring our dog into to meet potential candidates. I selected dogs that I liked, and after evaluating them to see if I would like to have them as a pet, I introduced them in the yard to my dog, until we found one that he hit it off with. They got along beautifully, and she really perked him up. And of course she's been a great companion for me.

go to your local shelter and bring your dog. the one here has a waiting room where you and a shelter dog can meet and see if they get along. Just try a few nice ones out with your dog and see if they click.
