I got extensions (great lengths) about 2 months ago because my hair had to be cut in short choppy layers because of overprocessing from highlights and a bad straightener. The lady that did the extensions has been doing them for over 11 years, and she does high profile people in my area. I got several references. And, she even does her own, and her hair underneath looks great - no damage. I've heard that they damage your hair so I called her to ask if I could go ahead and get them out even though they look great and I look better than ever. She said she could but that she doesn't recommend it until at least 3 months until the bonds have softened even more and that I would not like it right now until my hair had grown some. I ran into the man that used to cut my hair in a drug store today. He said,"Oh, I see you still have your extensions in.You know those things will ruin your hair and make you bald when she takes them out. He is a barber. He doesn't do extensions, but it scared me

It's hair. Yes. It will FALL OUT if you keep screwing with it. You have wasted too much time and too much money on your hair. What else are you known for? What are your goals in life? Do you realize that thousands lose their hair every year because of chemo and are fighting for their lives. It's HAIR. Nothing to get depressed about!

Screw what people think, get a haircut that is easy and flattering and forget about the rest. You are a victim of the modern celebrity culture. LIVE YOUR LIFE!

First of all, don't be depressed. Why not?

Extentions won't ruin your hair when removed. The thing is that you lose over a hundred hairs a day naturally, but when the hair is bonded to the extentions, it doesn't fall to the floor and just sticks there with the other hair. It's fallen out from the root, but won't show up in your combs and brushes, or anywhere else it would naturally show up once it's left the root of your scalp. Then, when the extentions are removed, (if done properly, which your hairdresser seems to have tons of experience) all of that hair comes out with it, but it's really hair that would have fallen out anyway. It just looks like you're losing a lot of hair at one time. It makes perfect sense and you should feel a lot better. Trust your professional.

My advice is this- keep the extensions for a while until the bonds are soft (maybe half a year to a year) and then remove them after that. In the future, be more careful with your hair. Too much or too little sleep, stress, heat from rollers water or flatirons, chemical straighteners, bleach, peroxide, combs, heridity, and hats will all cause you to lose hair. Bleach, peroxide, straighteners, and rollers will cause split-ends and split ends work there way up to your scalp and cannot be destroyed completely unless you shave your head! When you have the straighteners out, go to the barber occasionally to get your hair trimmed and get rid of most of those split ends. I know what it is like, because I had about two feet of hair and had to shave my head to get rid of all the split ends from various damages. Good luck.

Many famous people get extentions, none of them are bald..except for Britney Spears xD

Don't worry, if you do end up having to cut your hair shorter, thats in right now anyway. Who knows, you might look super cute with a short cut.

Well, I've never had extensions... but since you have them now, all you can do is wait for the 3 months to come up and get them removed.

And I've never heard of people going bald from them...

sounds like he was mad at you. I would KILL for extensions, but they are too expensive for me!! I think you will be fine. In the history of hair extensions (even with the celebs) I have NEVER heard of that happening. Just take good care of them and your real hair, you will be fine.

The barber is probably right..Hair extentions do put stress o the hair....They use a bonding glue, or they sew wefts into your own hair...either way they are not healthy for your hair..Sure she likes you coming and getting them, cause that means Moola in her pocket book...Just leave your hair alone and give it a rest and save your money..Its better for you hair...

I've had my fair share of hair drama, so what you should do is just realize it will grow back. And listen to your stylist, she knows what she is doing. You might not like your short hair now but it gets longer faster than you think.
