from Teddy Roosevelt in 1907:

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Thank you for all of your opinions. I realize that for most of us, our families, whether 1 generation ago or 10 generations ago, all immigrated to the US from someplace else. They then learned the language if they didn't already speak it, worked hard, and made this nation into what it is today, which I still think is great. I do not understand why it has to be different today. Why should we and our ancestors, who work(ed) so hard have to put up with this new generation that wants to get by on laziness and entitlement. I don't get it?

It is undoubtedly one of the greatest comments ever made on the subject of immigration into the US,and from one of its greatest presidents as well. And the best part is that no rational thinking person can attack the one who spoke those words without looking like a fool, since Teddy Roosevelt is clearly demonstrated by history to be and honest and decent man, something this country is sorely lacking these day in politics. In my opinion those words should be voted on and put into law, exactly as they are.

I noticed in another question you answered, that you apparently know more about Teddy Roosevelt than you know about science. First, you asked that same corny question that's been asked so many times on here by creationists that it's become a joke. "If we evolved from apes, why do we still have apes'? It's been answered countless times, but I'll answer it again. No scientist has ever said we evolved from monkeys or apes. Humans and apes have a common ancestor that branched into the species you see today. Neither evolved FROM the other. 2. The sun is not shrinking, it's converting hydrogen to Helium, but it's got a few billion years to go. 3. Scientists use proven methods for dating fossils that is not cyclical at all. Read up on it, and have a nice day.

The passages were culled from a letter he wrote to the president of the American Defense Society on January 3, 1919, three days before Roosevelt died not in 1907 while he was still president. :D

My Dad was born and raised in Mexico City, he served in WW2. He became a citizen and later married Mom. I see alot (but Not all) of people from Mexico trying to get something for nothing. It's like the New Generation is less honorable than their parents. We, as Americans, need to step up and assert ourselves or else................

Probably nice in theory, but after a person becomes a citizen are they truly granted equal treatment??? Look at the history of laws that have barred assimilation into the American culture and then re-read this quote.
