Alright, so my hair is naturally pin straight. It looks really nice, but it gets old. I really want to curl my hair some days to add variety to my style.
So how do I do this? How can I achieve actual curls and how can I make my hair wavy?
I have a curling iron, but I don't really know how to use it. I am willing to pay a reasonable amount of money for any tools/ products I might need. Thank you!!!!

A great way to get waves is to wash your hair at night. Braid it while it's still damp. Be sure the strands of hair are smooth throuout the braid so that it doesnt dry crinkly. Let it dry while you sleep. Unbraid them in the morning. If the waves are not as defined as you would like, try using a setting spray the next time. You may have to experiment with this a few times to get just the right tecnique for your hair.

Also you can use mousse. I prefer any of the Paul Mitchell sculpting foam products. Select one for your hair type/texture and they type of finish you want. Once you've washed your hair, apply the foam while its wet then take a dry towel in your hand and scrunch up your hair. Just grab it by the ends, push the strands up close to your head and squeeze. Keep doing this until it's all wavy. Add more sculpting foam if necessary.

I don't know how to explain how to use a curling iron but once you've been using it you develope your own tecniques. I just say buy one and practice. I think it will come naturally to you. They come in different sizes so when you buy keep in mind the lengh of your hair and the size curls you want to have. Also be sure that it is ceramic to minimize sticking and heat damage. Also use a heat protector spray or serum--I prefer Beyond the Zone pro formula Turn up the Heat Flat Iron Protection. It'll shield your hair from heat damage and leave your curls shiny and silky.

put your hair up in a clip
release a small section of hair
take your iron and curl to the side so that the curling iron is facing straight up and down
hold for about 30 seconds and release
you should have a large ringlet cascading from your head
now repeat with all of your hair in small sections
looks super cute in the end!

Sounds like a basic lesson at the salon would do ya and you could pick up your products then too ! (The stylist will be glad to recommend I am sure) Call and make an appointment for a style. I know Great Clips will help you here, and its cheap. (was a manager there) There are other reasonable salons too as opposed to going to one that will charge $30 just for the lesson in styling. LOL. Good luck.

i have a suggestion for waves. i have experience with curls and waves because i have wildly curly hair. one tehcnique i know of is ..
1. gte some hairl gell (any kind)
2. apply to all hair (separate strands at a time because if u put it on ur whol head it will drie too fast)
3. bunch ur hair up in ur hands and scrunch it.
you should get a beach wave look, but if not, try your curling iron...and a spiral curler would help too!
