its hard to tame 2 birds, but it can be done. I got 2 parakeets from petco the first time, but after about a week, i realized that one of them was too protective and dominant that I would never be able to hand tame them, so i brought it back to the store, and just got one this time. but all parakeets are different. with a lot of attention and patience, you will be able to handtame them :).

well, i was told that for the first couple of days, we should let the bird get used to the cage and surroundings. That's what I did with my Sage (my lil parakeet now). For the first day or so, they will probably just stay in one place or something like that. I recommend putting a cloth over the cage at night, so they'll know its time to sleep. Usually on the first day or so, when the cloth goes on, then the parakeet decides to eat, coz it feels more comfortable with no one watching.

You can sit by the cage and talk to them. After a day or 2, try putting your hand in the cage. If they move, or show signs of discomfort, take your hand back out, and try again a couple minutes later. This will also help them realize that you're not a predator or anything like that.

When they get comfortable with your hand being in the cage, try touching them, if they show signs of discomfort, again, take your hand out of the cage, and try again in a few minutes.

After they get comfortable with your touching them, try to make them perch on your finger. Either put your hand in front of their abdomen and say "step up" or you can try pushing one of their claws up, and see if they place the other claw on your finger. They may not do it the first time, but they will.

Let them perch on your finger for a couple minutes, and then put them back on the perch they were on. Then see if they will go on your finger again. Of course, give them breaks in between.

After a while, begin to try and take it out of the cage. If it flies back in, then go ahead and try again later.

When its fully comfortable with staying out of its cage, then you can try playing with it.

My parakeet is at a stage now where if I stick my hand in the cage, she'll perch on it, and I can bring her out of the cage.

A few tips are:

try tying the bird cage door open, so the parakeet doesn't feel like she has no more access back to his/her home.

never let your parakeet out of the cage for more than 30 minutes, unless its at a stage where it fully trusts you.

don't get discouraged if its really hard to handtame your parakeets, given that its 2 of them, and they are going to bond with each other, and depend on one another.

if you hv 2, its advisable to handtame them separately.

best of luck to you!

i had a parakeet for a few years. it kinda depends on if it is a boy or a girl but here are a few tips. (by the way, boys have bluish nostrils above the beak and girls have pinkish)
approach them slowly and dont be too quiet where you startle them.
dont move their cage around too often.
try hand feeding them occasionally.
every once in awhile after you have had the parakeet a couple of weeks and it has settled down, open the cage door and let it fly around the room a few times. within a maximum of 30 minutes it will get hungry and return to its cage. if you do this about twice a week eventually it will climb on your shoulder and eventually you can toss in some toys.
put a mirror in the cage if the bird is alone because it believes that it is another bird and then while u r busy during the day it will have something to play with.

hope i helped!!!! good luck with your parakeet!!!!

p.s. signs of sickness- feathers puffed out for a long period of time, not eating
signs of being scared-spreads its wings
ways to prevent sickness-feed him some vegetables, any except green beans and a fruit like strawberries

before i got my bird i researched a ton, and what you are supposed to do is wait a period of about 2-5 days before picking them up..etc. the birds must get used to the environment and such.

when i first got my bird, we layed low. you can sing to the bird , watch him/her, but do not take the bird out. after a few days (3) we left the cage open and sat right in front of it, and sure enough, he climbed out! respect the bird by giving it space and it will respect you.

.i went through the same thing. i and my sister couldn't get close enough to our bird to pet it, so we just left it alone. sometimes we just sat there in front of the cage and just stared at it. i guess it started to get use to use being around it and wasn't scared of us anymore. so it let us pet it. the next day i put my finger in front of it and it just climbed on. then i let him sit on my shoulder while i walked around the house. but then i got another bird and i put it in the same cage, the first one started to get all protective so it never let me pet it again. i recamend you to not let the birds stay in one cage. then they will just get used to you the same way. i wish you luck with your trainning, if you need any more advice, heres my email.
