I would love to have a Whippet, I've been scouring the papers and internet for nearly a year searching for one. The AKC shows no registered breeders in WA, OR or ID.

Depending on the age you are looking for this may be the answer. Every breed has a rescue arm. Do a search for whippet rescue and something should pop up. Even the national whippet club should be able to direct you a local rescue org. Or, a local vet may be able to point you in the right direction. You can also try searching for a hound fancier group. Whippets participate in lure coursing maybe you can find an event and meet people. Or, travel out of state. Happens all the time.

whippet rescue is organized on the national level -www.whippet-rescue.com

There ARE breeders in the pacific northwest (I know for a fact) but few breed often enough to want their name on the AKC list or advertise in the paper.
Here is the the anerican whippet club webpage -http://www.americanwhippetclub.net There are several discussion lists that can give you an introduction to the breed and possible contacts in the links section.
http://www.americanwhippetclub.net/

The msn "whippet world" list is probably the most geared toward companion whippets vs dogs who compeate

NOTRA and ASFA (sighthound preformance groups) both have contact info for multiple wippet clubs in WA & OR (NOTRAs are in the contacts section) their webpages are the orginisation name . org - www.notra.org and www.asfa.org

PS added later
The new list from whippet rescue has several dogs from the Pacific North West.......

Contact American Kennel Club for a Breeder's referral in your area, well, sounds like you have done that already. Ok, then look for out side of area for breeders. Then, ask them for Whippet Rescue organization. With a rescue organization, they will even fly the dog if your home is approved as an excellent home. Also contact Vets in your area, SPCA, Animal Shelters. If it does not get any luck, I have a friend who can get you one. eMail me. She only adopt Whippet and Greyhounds for rescue.
