Could you guys please tell me what hot springs, geysers, and geothermal energy HAVE to do with volcanic activity?

Vocabulary- in case people need it-
* Geyser- A geyser is a type of hot spring that erupts periodically, ejecting a column of hot water and steam into the air.

* Geothermal Energy/power- Geothermal power is the use of geothermal heat to generate electricity. It is often referred to as a form of renewable energy, but because the heat at any location can eventually be depleted it is by definition not strictly renewable.

Thanks!

Hot springs and geysers occur when water seeps into faults deep enough to turn the water to steam. Volcanoes also form where faults are created by upward pressure from magma. So, volcanoes can produce hot springs and geysers, but you can also have hot springs and geysers without volcanoes.

Geothermal energy also does not require volcanic activity, but volcanoes provide a very large source of potential geothermal energy. Most geothermal energy is simply capturing heat from hot springs or using the ground as a heat sink. But where volcanoes occur in places like Yellowstone and Iceland, the Earth's crust is extremely thin, and it is very easy to drill down to levels where the rocks are hot enough to boil water, so people can develop a huge amount of steam by drilling and piping water through the drill holes. This form of energy is basically renewable as long as there is a supply of water, and as long as the crust does not thicken or the volcano doesn't erupt.

Geo-thermal energy is due to the heat caused by the pressure exerted deep down under the earth. In some cases it may be, but not necessarily, due to volcanic action.
The pressures encountered deep in the earth are such that, the rocks become extremely hot and water deposits in the area are subjected to sufficient heat to change it to superheated, high pressure steam and water. This can be 'tapped' as an alternative source of energy. .

ummm..... Geysers are hot and they have sort of the same reaction as volcano's they SHOOT upwards. Hot springs are geysers that are worn out they still are hot thought and geothermal energy heats and powers the volcano( but not deadly)....
