You said it. He was taken away too early. I had a kitten once that did that to the armpits of a teddy bear. I don't think that is something that you can get him to stop easily. I believe mine grew out of it. Give him his own blankie and put him in another room. Poor fella.

It's called wool sucking, it's more common in oriental breeds and as such is believed to be heriditary, in breeding tests it sure seems that way. Sometimes the reason IS that the kittens were removed from their Mom before they were emotionally ready, you're probably right about that. The usual treatment for this (wool sucking can be dangerous if they inhale or swallow any) is to use a dog toy as a substitute but i'm guessing you don't want to do that. Sooo give him some raw meat chunks that he can suck on or a chicken wing, it mightn't have the same appeal and it may break the habit. Also you can try putting a ticking clock (have to be specific, I once told someone to do this, they rang complaining when the digital clock was ruined lol) in with him. Some will just grow out of it in time, can't give you a timeframe because there isn't one, some never grow out of it.
You could also try some comfortzone feliway spray, it has soothing synthetic pheremones in it which may help him. another thing you can use is Bach Flower rescue remedy from the health food store or a naturopath. Just 6 drops in his drinking water is enough.
Bitter apple sprayed on the sheets should deter him, but you never know!
Good luck with him, i'm sure it's annoying when you're trying to sleep but it also sounds very cute.

I completely agree with you. I have a 2 year old Maine Coon mix I adopted from a shelter when she was 3 weeks old. She sucks when she goes to sleep too. At the same time, we got an 8 week old kitten who was with mom and he has never done it. I think it's a comfort thing they never got to be weaned from doing becuase they were taken from mom too soon. Just love your kitty and let him do what he needs to. Sounds like he's earned it. ♥

It's probably just something he does for comfort. If you bring him into bed with you and he grows accustomed to being comforted by you and your presence, he should stop soon enough. Just give it time. He's only a kitten, after all. Maybe get some earplugs until he's kicked the habit completely.

My cat did the exact same thing. At first I thought it was cute but it did get annoying. After a while my kitten stopped on his own. However, if your kitten doesn't stop try spraying some type of aversive on the sheet, cats don't like strong smells or tastes. You can also fill a water bottle and just spray him whenever he starts it. Eventually he'll get the point.

Well, you are right. My cat was taking away from her mother too early and she sucks on my clothes and blankets. It reminds them of their mothers, I looked it up. I don't think there is much you can do about it...but usually they will stop after Oh say 10 minutes.

I have a 16 pound furball that has been doing that for the last 10 years. You should actually consider yourself lucky. Heres why... Cats do that when they are taken from their mother to young. When he is sucking on the sheet he feels safe and he is trying to bond with you like he would with his mother. I never turn my cat away because I feel like he is trying to tell me that he loves me.

that sounds so cute...lol...your vet should know what you can do to get your cat to stop...maybe you can put your cat in a room that there is nothing for it to suck when it goes to sleep, for a few days or a week to try and break it from its habit.

he was seperated from his mother too early and is nursing on the sheets for comfort or because he is content. give him his own special blanket to do this on, and dont punish him for the behavior, he is showing you that he loves you
