it's safe as long as everything is sterile. make sure they were gloves and you see the needle come out of the plastic.

As long as they take all the regular procautions, it's fine. You can set up a sterile field pretty well anywhere.

I do suspension piercings in unusual environments all the time. I've done piercings in bars and outdoors. It's a little more difficult to maintain sterlility outside of a studio, but it's very possible.

At conventions, artists pay quite a bit of money for the set up, which includes hand washing stations and will almost always have the work area blocked off from the general public, so no one touches the equipment. They usually don't bring the autoclave (they tend to be big and heavy), but have all tools and equipment sterilized before hand.

I wouldn't get a piercing in that situation. I have five of my own and I've looked up the risks of unsterile areas and they are one of the biggest factors. I'm sure all of the piercers will have good equiptment but if you are doubting the safety of it ... don't do it. I wouldn't but I like a small studio where I am alone and not with everyone around, know that they don't allow others in, so forth. With over two hundred people around the odds that something may get misplaced, looked at, handled, anything ... while the piercer is away are higher. Ask around about the piercings and see where they are from but I would say do NOT get one there. Wait until you can go to a studio. Have fun at the convention, it sounds like it would be the time of my life!

Just like when you go to a shop...it depends on who's doing the work.

I've been to a few conventions before, and generally, the people running the convention have certain standards that the people working must meet. Many artists will sterilize their tools before leaving their shop, so that they don't have to worry about lugging around a 50 lb. autoclave. Granted, the environment is alot less controlled than a shop, but most artists have found ways to keep their area problem free.

If you're worried about sterilization and cleanliness, any reputable piercer/tattoo artist will be more than happy to show you the equipment prior to set up, as well as explain what to look so you'll know everything is clean.

It's not as safe, usually, for several reasons. One is that there are more chances for equipment to be accidently contaminated by accidental tampering, putting it somewhere that wasn't as sterile as hoped, etc... Secondly, with more people around, there's more chance for the artist to be distracted. I would suggest going around, finding an artist you'd like to have do your work, and then make an appointment at their establishment.

it all depends on the individual piercer and tattooer. they do have booths set up and don't allow everybody to go back there. only the artist and the person getting worked on. i am getting a tattoo at a convention saturday and i am not worried about the sterility of the environment. i know my artist and i know how well he keeps his stuff clean and i know that i am going to take care of the tattoo after i leave. the only thing to worry about is airborne stuff and that is everywhere anyway.

If you do this go to a real good tattoo parlour, and use the best guy as you will have this tattoo for life so don't be cheap and don't take risks
