How do you convince parents to let you get your license?

I talked to my parents about letting me get my license but they think its too dangerous out there. I got the insurance covered and they trust me alot but they just don't think i have enough experience behind the wheel. I have told them that the driver's test to get your license is suppose to let you know if your ready to drive or not but they won't believe me. It's not that my parents don't trust me but they want me to be safe but i'm not sure how to show that. thanks

You have to show them that you can handle the car and the traffic. An actual driving test of maybe 15 minutes behind a wheel and a test of maneuvability doesn't really prove the experience, it's just a state minimum standard.

You say they don't think you have enough experience behind the wheel. I can infer from that statement that you have your learner's permit and are obtaining experience every time you drive. So every time you go anywhere as a family, ask to drive. Be a pest about it. Honestly, if by their own recommendation you need more experience, what better way to get it and help them build their own confidence in you.

Ask them to drive with you often. This way you will get more practice, and they can get comfortable with your driving skills. And, promise to not drive with any friends in the car unless, one of your parents is with you, or after you have had a reasonable amount of driving experience (that will be something either you can set up with them, or if you live where I do, its the law I think until you are 18)

Also, you may want to mention that the more experience you can get now, the better and the reason is because you have them to help guide you during this learning process, but if you don't get your license until you are an adult, imagine how it will be for you to be out there on your own, as an adult, just learning to drive, and in comparison to doing it now, very little experience when you would finally get your license someday. Does that make sense??? Sorry, I'm a little tired and that was hard to get out.

I believe giving them a "wake up call" may be an effective course of action..... basically just telling it to them straight with a bit of attitude that you are no longer a little kid, that you stand a better chance of getting a good job if you've got your license + most experts say once you've passed your test and start driving solo is when you really start learning to drive and gaining experience. Perhaps throwing in something along the lines of "It's not like we live in ****ing India" (the country with the most dangerous roads in the world).

Failing that, if you've just been learning via lessons from parents and / or other relatives and friends...... book a lesson or two with a proper driving instructor and get their independant opinion on whether or not you're ready to take your final test.

Or if they haven't even let you start learning to drive yet, just tell them "HOW THE F*** AM I SUPPOSED GET ENOUGH ****ING EXPERIENCE TO GET MY LICENSE IF YOU WON'T LET ME ****ING DRIVE!?" Then just walk off, looking up into the air as if to say "Give me strength!".

It's easy to convince your parents by doing your chores, keeping your grades up, getting a part time job,& saving your money. If you show maturity, they will know you are serious about getting your license. It will take a little time, but eventurally they will relent when they feel that you are ready to handle the responsibility. Ask them if you can enroll in a drivers ed course & after getting your learners permit, practice, practice, practice with your parents right next to you. A reputable drivers ed instructor will teach you the principles of defensive driving, such as anticipating the unexpected (the car door that opens just before you pass the vehicle) & expect you to show those lessons. im sorry to say dude, i feel really bad for you. no parent should do that. i dont know what to say to that. your parents are just those people who don't really think too much. my freind isnt even allowed to walk outside if there is snow on the ground. i think thta is just wrong. they should know that you have to get a license in order to drive. you should tell them that if i cant drive why can you guys drive. the best thing to do is to do the sob story and just ignor them for real. like seriously do not talk to them no matter what. make them feel really guilty too.

Ahhhh there is a trick called patience first, and a bit of persistence... Don't be a nag, just keep at it, you know, kinda like when you were a little kid and you wanted something really bad for xmas and your parents were like NOnono, well it's like that same deal all over again.

Then you wait, and wait a little more, that part is hard but that is like that and can not be changed heh.

generally by letting your parents see that you are very responsible and trust worthy, where everything else is concerned. If they feel you are honest and open and know all rules and are willing to obey them this will also help you .
