A viral illness also known as infectious mononucleosis or 'mono'. It can occur at any age but is commonest among teenagers. It is spread by close contact and is also known as 'the kissing disease' for obvious reasons.
It usually presents with a sore, ***** throat, more severe to look at than most streptococcal throats. Often extreme tiredness is a symptom, sometimes the throat problem may be absent.
It is diagnosed by the GP having enough clinical suspicion to arrange a confirmatory blood test, (monospot or Paul Bunnell test)
It has no treatment, but antibiotics are often given to treat secondary streptococcal infections which do occur on top.
It can be loss lasting and debilitating.

Glandular fever is an viral infection, it used to be known as the kissing decease, as many people in their late teens catch the infection.
It will weaken you, only a blood test will prove you actually have the decease, drugs will not help as it's viral, you just have to grin and bare it.
It took me six weeks to get over my bout of glandular, there are no side effects, unless your a man, they say a man can become sterile if they catch the virus. (don't quote me on this, as I don't now if it as been proved as a correct fact or whether it is an old wives tale)

I had glandular fever for over a year a couple of years ago with a serve kind, i have lots of tips that help me though the year if you want you can email me and i can answer any question you have on the subjects

The kissing disease...old wives tale, they said thats how you caught it, but i had it when i was 10, and believe you me i never kised anyone then!
I had it as a young child, it was a severe form on tonsilitus and swollen glands, and i had to sleep for England, really did hit me side ways i remember having a month off school, and apparently it can stay with you for life!
oh someone below says it can make you sterile....that's mumps that can do that!!
Blood test confirm it, and it really is plenty of R n R

when you get an infection in the glands and it makes you feel sick,sore throat, head ache, high temperature you need to see a doctor if you have it to get some medication and rest drinking plenty of water. its not very nice its kind of like flu really
