Depending on whether you want to start on the local scale or go straight to the global scale, there are several possibilities.
If you are interested in the global scale, do an internet search for federal agencies (like epa.gov) and for global charities dedicated to prevention of global warming. If they do not list organizations in your area, e-mail or call the contact listed for further information.
On the local scale, there should be city, county, private, and school related organizations all doing their part for the environment.
Look at Woburn's city and county websites. Often there are neighborhood organizations available with specific task forces and regular meetings. They may be called commissions, task forces, or committees among other things. If there are no environmentally based groups with a focus on global warming issues listed, there should be contact information for your city council and county board of supervisors. Call and write these officials and refer to your specific interests. They will be able to tell you about local action committees, groups, meetings, etc that they are aware of. And they should be aware of all official groups.
Contact colleges in your area for information about clubs on campus. If you are not taking classes there and they do not allow non-students to be a member of college clubs, get the contact information for the advising professor and the president of the club. These people are likely aware of ways you can contribute as well as organizations they work with to fight global warming.
Do an internet search for global warming action groups in your area. I did a search and found grassrootsfund.org had a link to clean air - cool planet (http://www.cleanair-coolplanet.org) which has contact info for their campus program associate in Boston.
I believe starting in the local scale is important because if everyone was looking in everyone else's backyard but not their own, little gets done.
