My gallbladder is kaput and it needs to go. What do I have to look forward to? Weight gain/loss? Digestion promblems or changes? Book answers just don't help me. How did it affect you?

oh, the gallbladder. what a pleasant issue to deal with... yeah, right. lol. I have gained a little bit of weight since my surgery, but if you learn to eat right all over again, you won't gain any weight. Just make sure you eat low fat foods, because you will have stomach pains if not. Ask your doc about prevacid. It works wonders for stomach pains. The stomach pains will go away, but you will probably have to deal with running to the bathroom after you eat. Just be careful with what you eat, I can't eat syrup, too much sugar, or foods high in fat, b/c they make me sick. You just have to learn what makes you sick. If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to answer them for you.

I had mine out last year and had no problems other than a slight weight loss. I was since diagnosed with Celiac disease which is unrelated. They did it by laparoscopic surgery, with 3 small incisions, and I was out of the hospital in 2 days. I was up and walking around in a couple of hours after surgery. Nothing at all to be concerned with, Hon. If you still have pain afterwards, they can always do an ultrasound to see if there happened to be a gallstone stuck in the bile duct, but don't worry about that for now. Mine was acute, and it came out like a shot!

Good luck, and God Bless you!
xx

I haven't really had any problems with bowel issues or digestion but I did gain about 10 pounds. It's really not that bad. You will feel like you got hit by a truck but after that just sore feeling for a few days. Good luck!!
