What's in a name? First aid, First responder, Basic First aid !
If you are untrained and find someone in need of help the first resonse in most people is to offer assistance even if they don't know first aid to any extent.
However sometimes "Basic" first aid is knowing how to stop bleeding (direct pressure) Recovery position for unconcious patients and even just giving reassurance until trained help arrives. There are many courses on offer, some free. As a paramedic I am often very gratefull for help from people who have just done some very basic things that reassured the patient that someone cares and that help is on the way.

first aid is when you have a card and is certified to give first aid. usually boy scouts and girl scouts have them, firefighters, policemen... and basic first aid is what you learn in like health class...its what you do until an ambulence comes or someone certified can take over. but you cannot do basic first aid until the person you are doing it on approves. remember that b/c you may get sued if you arent careful. hope i helped.
