I am going through this crap at the moment. I was my my ex for 8 years, we broke up about three months ago and only recently started talking again. It is so hard because she left me and even though there may be the slimmest of chances of us getting back together in the future, this friendship thing we are doing now is very awkward at times. I still end phone call conversations with her having to bite my tongue and not saying 'i love you' and find it so hard not to want to tell her how much i want her back. I guess the only way a friendship with an ex can actually work is if both of you are mutual about the way things ended and see nothing left in the future other than friendship. If one of you is still hoping for the relationship to mend then that person is almost sure to get hurt.

YES YOU CAN! I absolutely adore my exes, and I'll tell you something very freaking sad. The one kid I had an awful relationship with, and never spoke to again passed away, and everyday I wish I could call him up and say how sorry I was. You cannot forget someone that you've held and loved. So now, I'm desperately searching for all my exes, just to make sure (at very least) that they're alive and well. If you must, part on good terms. But I tell ya, no one knows you like your significant other. Good luck ~N

Yes. My best friend is an Ex of mine. True we have a sexual history together. But that is history. She knows me more than anyone. She is also friends with my current girlfriend and I am friends with her boyfriend, I can truly say I love her. But in a unconditional way. And I believe that there was no way we could have became this close if we were still together.

I used to think the same thing, until me and my ex broke up. She did not do me wrong, it was a mutal break up. I have so much love for her that is why we are just real good friends and that is how it alway gonna be. I have a girl and she nows all about her.

my ex of 2 years and i are still friends 2 years after our breakup. we talk on the phone every now and then. we didn't break up on bad terms so we don't have any bad feelings towards on another. im in a relationship with someone i love very much and we are expecting a child. but i can still communicate with a ex. i don't think about getting back with him, or dream about him sexually. i call and check up on him to make sure hes doing good. he even tells me about his gf and his dating life. i do admit he still wants to marry me one day. but i tell him he shouldn't think that way and should try hard to make his recent relationship work. i think we would always be friends, i hope so, its hard to find good friends as adults, so i try to hang on to the ones i have.

you can, but it makes it hard for the next relationship. you broke up for a reason. end it at that and move on one or the other end up getting jealous about the others current bf/gf.. my bf and his ex gf are still friends. and it brings so much stress to the relationship

My boyfriend and his ex think you can. She's always calling him up and whining for him to do stuff with her, and sometimes he'll go. I personally would like to smash her face in with a brick. But that's just me.
