My printer/scanner/copier keeps telling me to open door and to clear carriage jam what and how do i fix it ?

there is a door in the back of the printer that opens.Reach in and and pull the paper out.

First clear the jam if there is one. Second shut down the scanner and let it set 5 mins so that it can powercycle. GL
