I need to transfer a large amount of image files to an external hard drive and need to separate them by date code. Instead of clicking each individual file separately, how can I select a beginning and an ending file and have Windows select (highlight) all files in between? I've seen it done, but never got a chance to ask how to do it.

left click the first file, then HOLD down the 'shift' key, and while holding the 'shift' key down left click the last file.

aside from the above, you can also hold the 'ctrl' key while left clicking to select several individual files instead of a range.

Click on the first file, hold the key, then select the last file. Any file in between will be selected as well.

You might also want to learn about using the key too. This will let you select multiple files but not necessarily a range.

yes that is right but it works best on list mode when all the files are in a list so the first and last files are obvious. or details. you could also drag a box over them and they will all select. or learn how the command line works and use xcopy.
