I am told that I will be in plaster for about 6 weeks. Will I have a full general anaesthetic or will I be concious? Will I be on crutches?
Will I be able to wear normal strappy shoes this Summer?
Etc., etc........!

. I had to have my toe straightened and pinned as well though, so yours won't be as complicated. You'll be in plaster about 6 weeks, like you said. I wore a velcro shoe, not lovely looking, but made me feel protected. I did have a general anaesthetic. Not a problem. Took decent pain for a week. This was in the February last year. By the summer I was wearing summer shoes that I hadn't been able to wear for years for painful and cosmetic reasons, so I was chuffed to bits. My foot was quite severely deformed, so if your just having a bunion removed you'll be fine and pleased you had it done. Take care and good luck

hi i had a bunion operation when i was 14 and i can remember it ded well. firstly i wont lie to your when the anestetic weras of its painful as hell but they do give you more drugs which minimilise the pain. dont worry ull be under a full general anestetic. (unless u decide for sum mad reason u wanna watch the op). any wayafter the op a doc will come round n see if u hav feelin in ur feet, and examine his so called work of art! then probs the day after ull have a physio come round to get u on ur fee n take a few step (believe me this is agonising) ull get crutches and a wheel chair, i was in the wheel chair for about a week but could have come out sooner i just liked being lazy n havin my mum push me around. now as for the plaster cast when i had it done they only plastered my feet n didnt do a leg plaster with it so it looked like i was werarin moon boots had the mick taken outta me at school so i never went in. ull probs be in hospital for 3 or 4 days for the op, forgot to mention that b4. any way as you cant wash you feet with them being in plaster, and your feet usually get quite sweaty u get some really manky fungus stuff growin there which is like really thick yellowy stuff. any way thankfully after about three weeks as my feet were that sweaty i was able to slide my feet out of the plaster and wash them then put them back in ready for my next check up. the operation wound heels quite quickly (when i finally had my plaster taken of i just had the scars). the only prob ur left with is the scars, u will beable to wear strappy shoes for the summer as most of them will cover ur scars but i would try and get used to wearin heels slowly before deciding to go in for the kill and wear them straight away as this could damage the work on surgery, cause you loads of pain or break the bone as its gonna be brittle from the surgery for a few months. i dont have much feeling where my scars are but i hate my scars despite how neet they are. i will gladly provide u a pic of my scars if u email me so u can see what bunion op scars look like 10 years after surgery. although it is painful this surgury it only last for a few days the pain and there are drugs the docs will prescribe which will minimise this and there are plenty of thing out there that are more painful than this surgury ie giving birth. hope this gives you some like n gud luck with ur op let me know how it goes. x vix
