Everybody believes in something. I'd rather have someone out there who doesn't mask his beliefs or pretend he doesn't have them. An atheist or pagan can press a doomsday button just as easily as a fundamentalist christian.
More important to me than personal beliefs regarding spirituality and afterlife (though I think a basic belief in the value of life is important) ought to be the expressed beliefs on the willing use of force to either defend or attack. Personally I *want* someone who's willing to use force (when warranted) and not just decend into an endless political appeasement (ala Jimmy Carter). There are bad people in the world who mean us harm, and consequently I don't want someone who is entirely unwilling to use our military to defend us.
None of this is a defense of George Bush, btw (though I imagine it will be taken that way). I don't think he's tough enough on prosecuting the war and certainly he's waaay off base in allowing illegal immigrants through our borders (again, I imagine the person asking the question will vehemently disagree) so he's not my favorite president by any stretch. And I'm not a fundamentalist, but I do appreciate the fact that we know he is one (and is willing to admit his beliefs; I actually really respect him for that).
But as for the image of a rabid warmonger dying to press the doomsday button and send us all into nuclear war, I think his actions have disproved that. He's had nearly two full terms to start pressing buttons (and sometimes I almost wish he had) and so far nothing.

I'm okay with it. Why not? I'm more concerned about his spending habits.
BTW, "Fundamentalism" is just an epithet. It doesn't add anything to the discussion to throw it around. Why would believing in the rapture make someone more "fundamentalist" than believing in heaven or hell, or nirvana; and why would this form of "fundamentalism" be particularly dangerous in a nuclear crisis?

No he doesn't.
The president can't single-handedly actvate a nuclear strike. The technicians at the facility also have to do some stuff.
cool now I get a thumbs down for stating fact..although evolution is a fact as well and I get thumbs down for that too.
