Ok, so for a week now I've been having this throbbing ache in my left side that every now and then stabs. I've been to ER and they said they didn't think it was a kidney or spleen problem, for some reason did a chest x-ray and basically didn't come up with anything. It is on the left side just under the ribs. It hurts in the front all the way around the side to the back. I went to a regular doctor today and all he did was give me a muscle relaxer. I've had muscle pains and cramps before, and this doesn't feel like a muscle pain. If I'm not moving, then it's just a dull ache, but as soon as I move or stretch, it hurts. Anyone have any ideas or experienced anything similar??

I didn't do anything that would strain the muscles and the relaxer isn't helping. I've also been getting really swollen all over, like I'm retaining fluid.

This brings back memories from 7 or 8 years ago. I had the same problem, same place. Nothing was found. I was referred to a specialist, had a full scan and the pain just couldn't be explained. It lasted for a few months and eventually went. It's annoying when you're in pain and can't get a diagnosis....and no, I'm not a hypochondriac ! I hate going to the docs

If you already checked bones and internal organs and they are OK, this could be a muscle spasm. If the pain goes away for a while with the muscle relaxer it is a hint that this is the case.
The best medication for muscle spasm is the natural one:
a good massage therapy. Most Chiropractors can do it, or have someone to do it to you. I had this experience when I picked a large box with arms extended and turned around with it on my arms. I could not even laugh, so bad it hurt.
Hope you get better soon.

Having this kind of pain, that you are experiencing, I would tell my Dr. that I want an MRI test, as that will show what is going on inside your body. I blew out my knee, and right away they wanted to do surgery, and I said not until I get an MRI, so I can see what is going on with my knee. After having that test, which was very easy, I am going to have arthroscopic surgery, as I had seen my test results, and pictures of my knee. Sometimes you have to tell the Dr. what you want, or go get a second opinion. good luck.

yes, and it was IBS. The pain on the upper right quadrant might be an indication of irritable bowel syndrome. Try changing your diet for a few days, lay off fats and spices and see if it improves.

No, but it seems to me that with all that you have been through....Doctors just don't like you. It's about time we do something about OSF!! (I can only imagine what your mother is saying about all this!!) Well, hope you feel better.
