Why is it that most Yahoo Answers users like to criticise the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints? We LDS people dont criticise Yehovah's Witnesses, Pagans, Atheists, Muslim's or Jews, so why do we have to deal with the bad end of the stick??? I'm proud of being a Latter-Day Saint, but I dont like being told that I'm a member of a dangerous cult, because I'm not!
We're not here to be rude about everyone elses religion, but to ask questions. So why cant we all just respect each others beliefs or more to the point why dont you respect our beliefs when we respect yours??

You're right, we seem to be getting that a lot, especially more recently. I know it;s hard, but we should either calmly state the truth ot not say anything at all. There are people on here who have lefitimate quesions, wanting answers, and that's great. On the other hand, there are people on here who are just seeking to pull us down. But the things is, we KNOW that we belong to the church of God, so why shoula anyone else's opinion matter? No one can take away your testimony, only learn from it. I know it's difficult to refrain from telling people off, but these are people who simply do not know or refuse to believe the true gospel of Christ. YOU know that we're not a dangerous cult, so you also know that anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong. Just keep bearing and strengthening your testimony!

I've actually had some rather nice discussions with LDS folks. I'm not that keen on door-to-door religion, but the folks who've stopped by have been rather pleasant to talk to, even with me being a Pagan and all. ;)
I think the reason you get treated poorly is that, well, you're different. Which is, realistically, the same way that everyone who is different gets treated. (Trust me, as a Pagan, I know where you're coming from, we get the same type of crap from people around here.) Rather unpleasant, but, for too many people, rudeness is the only way they know how to relate to things that are different.

Can I tell you why?
Its because Mormonism, is a fairly recent concept. Not like many other religions. So when it first came about, it was marked as a cult. And the action following some members around, such as the polygamy sects, stigmatized the religion as being abnormal, and to many, wrong.
It hasnt been enough time to have passed yet for it not to still be stigmatized. And thats why your picked on.
My dads Mormon, I am not, I just dont believe it, but I think you have every right to believe it, AND should be respected as a person, not picked on for your faith. And I believe that of EVERYONE, of any faith.

My friend, everyone on here belongs to a group that gets insulted. The Christians get ridiculed. The Atheists get criticized. The Wiccans get mocked. Even the Pangelists get insulted by people who are anti-tolerance. It is unfortunate that your religion gets made fun of as well, but that's the nature of things. There are many of us who are trying to promote tolerance for other beliefs, while holding on to our own beliefs. Pangelism...it's not a religion, it's a way of life! Blessings in the Light of Christ!

Your head should hurt because you are basically banging it against a brick wall...sorry...
There will always be opposition to the gospel as long as satan has influence over people. Even he knows the church is true... he just doesn't want others to so he causes confusion, misconception, falsehoods, rumors, hatred, and every other thing unholy and untrue about the church.
Just keep your testimony growing and endure, that's pretty much all we can do.

I do not agree with your doctrine at all. It leads people to distrust the truth of the Bible. However, that is no excuse to be rude. Some of the most wonderful people I have ever met (went to a memorial of someone I will truly miss lately) were part of the Church of Latter Day Saints.
My issue is with the doctrine and teaching, not the individuals themselves.

I have seen some really crazy stuff on here too...(fellow LDS) and initially it was really upsetting..but it comes down to faith...
Do you believe? Do you know who you are? Are you doing what's right? Is your testimony strong? If you are saying yes, then don't worry about the name-calling or the nay-saying or whatever.
People ARE rude, deal with it. If someone is trolling (and they do it all the time!), don't rise to the occasion....move on.

how can you say "most Yahoo Answers users"? I have not, and I doubt even a majority of R&S people have.
everyone is fair game here. everyone gets picked on. have you ever been told with arrogant glee by someone that they beleive you're going to hell? I doubt it. a persecution complex wins you no advantages, my friend.

I think most people outside of the LDS can look at Smith's claims and compare it with his actions and say "Hmmm, that's a load of horse poo."
Then again, I can do that with any number of organized religions/corporations. They're all full of holes when you examine them.
