why does a human go by the initial feelings-good ,instead of the bad that comes with an addiction,like how it is ruining their health life.
its like it has a power over you,and it is the feelings they are addicted to isnt it?

Initially there is an element of truth in what you say, but after a very short period it is probably the fear of feeling bad without the drug addicts are addicted to, that forces people to continue.

Have known a lot of addicts that weren't addicted to the feelings because the feelings from surgeries were exscruating pain and to relieve the horible pain and horrible feeings associated with broken backs, necks, or internal pains of cancer ,etc.,they took a drug called a narcotic to change the feeling of PAIN, and so came the drug addiction -not fr. any good feelings but from bad feelings of health problems. They weren't masochistic either.

It makes you think that you are better looking, funnier, it makes music sound better, people look better....
it relieves the anxiety of being around people, and the anxiety in between your ears....
Its magical stuff....
and then it stops working like that
and you have to increase the dose to make it work like that
and then it stops working again....
and you up the dose
and then it stops working all together - and you still cant quit because there is the partially reinforced response that someday it will work again.
Its both physical and psychological.

Think of it this way - sex feels good, so you want it more, Addiction is similar. Without the substance, you feel bad, perhaps ghet withdrawal - so you want it again just to function.

Because they are using their drug of choice to numb the pain they can't handle in their life. It has nothing to do with whether it's good or bad for them. Lots of things can be used to make you feel better because of your emotional pain....drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, eating, shopping, etc.
Once they stop using their drug of choice and learn how to deal with life---then they won't turn to the bad things to numb themselves. IF they stop.

Perhaps it's the perception of confidence they receive while taking the drug of their choice.
