So, theoretically, one executed using a guillotine has just enough time to see the bottom of the basket smack him in the face. Beyond that, there's really nothing left for him to contemplate.

I would think that your spirit or apparition would be expelled upon he bodys failure to contain it. So im thinking that you would know as soon as your brain stoped ticking and you were released to what ever afterlife you beleive in.

You won't know you are dead, you will cease to exist.. when the brain dies, the consciousness dies and decays along with it.
