When the current Dalai Lama dies, from what I understand, his soul enters the body of an infant that is yet to be born. Currently there is a living 15 year old boy that has been chosen to be the next Dalai Lama. How does this work? Does the current Dalai Lama's soul enter the body of this fifteen year old upon his death, or does his soul enter the body of an infant yet to be born? Help me. I hope this makes sense.

The mind goes on... we don't believe in a "soul" as it's usually put forward. His Holiness, Tenzin Gyatso, has not yet died, so therefore the "choosing" you're referring to is likely a hoax.

When HHDL is dying (they sort of know and enter the dying process in a certain way) he tells someone where he's going to go, and leaves signs. Once his mind has completely left the body... a search begins in the place he's indicated.

Various items from the previous ones are taken to see if the child will choose the correct ones from his previous incarnation, and questions are asked about auspicious signs (if any) surrounding the child's birth, etc. and further testing (so to speak) is done. That is how it's been done for hundreds of years with many other holy lamas too.

China has been trying to force a false Dalai Lama on the world for some time now, which His Holiness refuses to recognize.

Hope this gives some clarity. More info can be found online if you like.

When the Dalai Lama dies, he is reincarnated into another child. The Dalai Lama is chosen by the process of selecting relics that were from the Dalai Lama's past.

Say that there was a small rock, a piece of paper, a feather and a stick among various other items. The child that is tested must pick 4 things from the assortment. If the child picks the small rock, piece of paper, feather and stick, he is believed to be the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama.
