let me answer this from the pragmatist point of view. naturally there is an 17 years gap between you. within these gaps there are a lot of time and era difference. for example fashion and style of dressing. interest incertain music or film, the age of parents and sibling, step children (if there are any), age of friends and associates ect. this can cause a lot of disagreement and misunderstanding if proper communication skills are not implemented because both of u may have different ways and ideas of entertainment, and socializing.
another factor u should bear in mind is the biological factor. at age 18 u r in your peak years, this is when you want to party all night, hang out with your friends, have great sex and presently you would be giving serious thoughts to your career choice. basically your body is ready to take on these heavy stuff and maybe u r not ready to start a family. your partner would have gone through all this phase or era a decade ago and so it wouldnt mean the same for him. maybe he is ready or will soon be ready for a child, are you planning on putting your life on hold for that.? also at his age his libido would be phasing out, at age 24 you will want an abundance of sex with this man, will he be physically able to satisfy you at age 41?
When all is said and done it depend on your level of emotional maturity. if you are aware of the pro and cons of the relationship and still want to go ahead, the final decision is yours. sit and talk to him about your concerns though. all the best.

The onyl reason it matters is that they are at different places in life. He is gonna want to settle down and she is just starting party time in her life. While its not terrible that they are together I would say to just stay boyfriend/girlfriend until she is at least 21 and then go from there. From my experience when the age gap is that much it is better if it starts when she is in her mid 20's. 18 is too young to be devoting your life to someone. You can't even drink yet. Go party and see the world then come back and if you are still in love with the ol guy then do what you will.

*sigh* There ARE those rare occassion when a couple decades can't come between two people, but yes, age does matter 90% of the time. I wish you both well.

Age is a state of mind. When you really love someone age should not factor into it unless your under 18. My b/f is younger than me and he treats me better than older men have ever treated me.

Love doesn't care about age. So no. It is looked down on in our society, but it really doesn't matter.

I don't think age matters at all. My man is 12 years older than me and i don't care.

Nooooooooo, age does not matter at all, if you really and truly care about someone stuff like race and age wouldn't matter.

No, I'm 22 and my boyfriend is 33, which means that he was 11 when I was born. I absolutely adore him and I'm mature enough to know what love is and he knows that...He treats me like and adult and I love him for that......
