My 8 year old Pom has been vomitting about 1-2 per week since we got her 4 weeks ago. Usually she will vomit, then be fine. Other than that she seems to act normal and have a good appetite but this morning she vomitted twice then seemed to be in pain and just laid on the sofa all morning. I checked on her during my lunch break and she seemed normal and lively all except she hadn't touched her food. Should I take her to the vet? What could be wrong? I don't feed her wet food so it's not the pet food recall stuff and I only feed her dog food. I just don't feel like it's normal for a dog to vomit 1-2 per week. Am I overreacting?

I would take her to the vet as soon as possible. Any dog who is throwing up that frequently could have an intestinal virus or parasite which is causing the problem.

Dogs do have a tendency to gulp their food, and little dogs can gulp too much air while they are eating and that will cause them to throw up.

Since you feed her dry food, try putting a tennis ball or a toy in her dish with her food and she will have to slow down while eating as she has to pick the food out of the dish more carefully.

Poms do not have a lot of body weight to begin with, so you do not want her to not eat for a couple of days, or she will be even more sickly and weak.

Dry dog food can turn or go bad, so you may want to try a different food also.

Has she adjusted well to her new living situation? Smaller dogs can get stressed very easily and that may be contributing to her upset stomach.

Best of luck, I have a Pom too, and they are wonderful little dogs, I will say a prayer for both of you.

It is not normal for any dog to vomit that much, much less vomit on a regular basis. It is possible that she is sick or not adjusting well to the food or environment change. My reccomendation would be to take her to a vet. This will help pinpoint exactly what may be affecting her from allergies (lord knows my dogs have them to) to worms, to a virus or infection. Your vet will be able to help figure out the exact cause and help eliminate any stress to your dog and you. Dogs are very much like children, if your child was throwing up consistantly on a regular basis you would take him to the dr., the same applies here.

I hope this helps.

What is she vomiting ? is it yellow and foamy? if it is, then it is probably acid reflux from lack of eating (dogs do this when the dont eat enough). take her to the vet, it could be something more serious, like megaesophagus (food pools in the esophagus, then will be regurgitated up later on-they dont actually vomit) dietary intolerance or a foreign body

The agent in the pet food causes vomiting, but it would also cause renal failure (your dog would not be peeing)

never think that you are over reacting, yes take her to the vet, i am a vet nurse and any worried pet owner should get there pets checked as soon as you have a concern, i had 2 pms, for 15 and 17 yrs, great dogs, take her for a blood test, this should show up any abnormalities, if not, then the vet should use a process of illimination method to find the prob.

U should take it to the vet because puppies only vomit that much. get to to a vet ASAP!!!! The only dog food that's good is NATURA INOVA, EVO, OR CALAFORIA NATURAL. The web site is www.naturapet.com. The phone is (800)532-7261. This is the only dog food I would buy, besides making my own homade dog food.
(I have a cavapom) pom/cavilier spaniel mix!
