Military dogs are highly trained and expensive and will not be left under any circumstances. They are not "war dogs" they are like police dogs. The airforce security forces K-9 unit uses them for security, to sniff out bombs, and occassionally to interogate a prisoner who will not conform. Being a dog handler is one of the collest jobs the AF has.

Dogs are used by the military. They are used for their nose and their teeth. Dogs are used for security and seek out enemies trying to sneak onto the base. also they are used to find explosives or (I hope they don't find this on are personal) drugs. If we left are dogs at Iraq, we would be wasting money and work at training the dogs to do the jobs.

Of course there are dogs there and of course they get to come home. Just like police dogs (most of them are) after they do their 4 years many of them go live with the MPs, or the post vet, or who ever else wants them.

There are more German Sheppards living in military housing here than any other dog. Most of them are retired.
