Can somebody continue receiving unemployment benefits if they sign up for vocational school full time?

We live in California. My husband recently was laid off and awarded unemployment benefits. He's planning to sign up for full-time vocational school. I heard that once you report to the EDD you have begun training or school, they will discontinue your benefits. Is this true?
