Hi I am trying to choose between creating a blog OR creating an online newsletter so I can build a relationship with prospective customers BEFORE I introduce my product.

This is a niche market with zero newsletters available for this specific market! Blogs are also very thin in this area

Both, they are in effect two different strategies. A blog is "pull marketing" that will help with search engine optimization. An email newsletter is "push marketing" that will get people interacting with your blog or web site.

You should focus first on the blog, build out a good 3-6 months worth of posts, then start developing content for newsletters. Send them out on a monthly basis, same time each month. This way people will know when to expect your newsletter. Keep the same format and general subject line and avoid Spammy phrases.

Build Trust - Newsletters are a great way to build relationships with your customers. Turning strangers into friends and friends into customers.

Industry Expertise - Blogs help you build an expertise on your product or service. Blog as often as you can, once a week or more and keep the copy relevant. Blogging and can be fun!

I would suggest an online newsletter with an option for people to opt in to your ezine. This will build up your exposure and potential customer base.

You should visit relevant forums and leave the web site link on your signature. Go to sellcakeslikecrazy.com - which is not one of my sites and see how they have captured a very small niche. Their is an ebook they sell called Confessions of a Niche Marketing Manic that is excellent.

If you can't find it send me an email and I'll show you where to get it.

I would go with the newsletter, as this is the best tool to make yourself visible to your niche, promote your expertise and promote your products.

Once you are publishing your newsletter, you can add a blog, write articles, etc. But your first order of business is the newsletter.

I say, if you know that blogs are not widely used in this area, go with the newsletter idea. Plus, the newsletter will allow you to be informative and creative with your information. Perhaps, once your product is established, you can introduce the blog.
