I have a love seat and sofa that are a brown/khaki twill and I'd like to buy an ottoman to go with them. Does the ottoman have to be the same color as the sofas? What color would go with a brown/khaki twill color? And should I get a large square ottoman, a rectangle ottoman or 2 smaller square ottomans? Thanks for the help!

I will not purchase leather (as I'm against animal cruelty).

You don't have to purchase leather... you can get some amazing fake leather nowadays.... and that's what I suggest you do.... I'd go with a dark chocolate brown.

As for the shape, it really depends on the space you have and the use you want to make of the ottoman.

Large square: you can use this if you have lots of space, otherwise, it'll feel cramped. It's also cool if you want to sit a tray on it and also use it as a table. It's not fantastic as extra seating space.

Rectangle: Use this if the space is more restrained. You can also sit a tray on it and use it as a coffee table. It will sit quite a few people too if ever you need extra seating space.

2 squares: good for small spaces and 2 extra seatings. Can easily be moved around and you can still use one or the other as a table by sitting a small tray on it.

Please, please, please go with the faux leather.... trust me. And I wouldn't do the leather either.... it's also very expensive... oh... and think about getting one that opens and is also storage space inside.. :)

Lots of colors will go with your sofa. You can opt for a solid brown or khaki, or if you have an accent color, perhaps in an area rug, throw pillows, accent chair, etc. pull the accent color for your ottoman. Personally, I love large ottomans and they're great to put a serving tray on when you're relaxing and snacking; double duty as a coffee table, too. The shape really depends on how your room is arranged, so try to visualize the different shapes in your arrangement.

I'm with you on the leather issue.

I think getting and ottoman in dark chocolate brown or black would be better . the style now is for different pieces of furniture. Microsuade cleans very easily and is very popular right now so not too hard to find. As far as shape, it really depends on your space. Try using something from around the house to see if you like one shape more than an other. Good luck

Any color goes with brown and you want different textures if possible. On the ottoman I'd go with 2 matching ones that have storage in them. How about a print that has brown in it ?
