I got blonde highlights in my brown hair recently. They are too blonde. If I use one of those conditioners meant for brown hair or brown coloured hair, as my hair is naturally brown, will it tone down the blonde colour of the highlights or not do anything at all?

won't do anything at all. Sorry. The only way to fix blonde hair is to re-dye it. If you'd dyed it darker, you could just wait for it to fade, but since you went lighter, the hair is bleached to that color permenantly. If the highlights are too coppery or too yellow, that will fade eventually, but the hair won't get any darker with time. You can buy products to help tone down too-bright hair.

Or try this- at specialty stores, you can buy colored leave-in conditioners. (I have one for my red hair). If you used one for brown hair, that may help take the edge off. I don't think a regular conditioner would do anything. Just don't wear white until your hair is dry! (learned that one the hard way)

I don't think it will do much!! But that's because I don't believe in those stupid products designed for brown, blonde, red hair, etc!! Hair is hair - it doesn't matter what shampoo/conditioner you use really, as long as cleans it!! If you want to tone down the highlights just wash it more frequently as this will simply help the colour fade anyway more quickly!!

I actually had this happen. I already had a conditioner for brown hair (and it does make it look better) and had a few highlights put in. I didn't think anything would happen because the conditioner said that it doesn't deposit color. However, a few weeks later when my stylist saw my hair, he could notice that they weren't so bright. I used the John Freida one. Good Luck!

First, bleaching your hair to a platinum color is hard to do yourself. You should have someone do it for you, even if it's your friend, sister, brother, whatever. I will give you the best directions I can, thinking in terms of you not taking my advice and attempting this on your own. To go platinum, you will need heat. I'm sure you don't have a bowl dryer laying around, if you do though, use that. Otherwise, put wet towels in the dryer and dry them until they get really hot, but are still very damp. Next, you will need 40 volume creme developer, not 20. For the bleach, I would suggest pure white. You can get both of these at a beauty supply store like Sally's. Also get a tint brush, tint bowl, gloves and plastic cap. You will also need 10 volume developer and a toner. Ask the person for something in the miss Clairol line that is similar to platinum ice. All of this should cost you about $15-$20. Mix the bleach with the 40 volume developer until it is thick but runny. about the consistency of yogurt. Apply it to small pieces of your hair, about an inch away from your scalp to about an inch from the ends of your hair. Let it sit for about 20 minutes. Next mix a little more bleach with the 40 volume, add conditioner to it after you get the bleach to the yogurt consistency and put it on your roots and on the ends. You can comb it through to make sure its even. Put the plastic cap on and wrap your head with the hot towels. Leave this for about 10 to 15 minutes and rinse. It is almost impossible to get your hair to go completely platinum with an even color in one shot. Don't do this process again until you use a really good conditioner, again with heat, leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes with heat. You will more than likely need to use a toner after you bleach it to the right level.(platinum ice) Another thing, when you get it to the platinum "level" it won't look platinum until you tone it. It will be an orange, yellow color. So if it looks light enough, use the toner before re-bleaching. Most of your hair damage will be from the bleach, not the toner. Good luck!

you could try using the wash in wash out hair colours that you get in satchets in light brown and that should tone down your highlights. I don't think the shampoos and conditioners make much difference.

Hi
try using a baby shampoo like Johnsons or try using a anti dandruff shampoo, it should take the brightness off a bit. Just keep washing ur hair everyday with either of the two above products it should work.
Good luck

what I suggest is using a color rinse that will tone down blonde long enough for it to look nice when rinse is gone!
