I want a short hair, red, dachshund mini doggie so bad. I have a full time job and I have an 8 year old and a 12 year old children. I also have a Brittish budgie, three hamsters. But I really want a dog. My husband said I have to get rid of the other pets first. I love my birdie and hamsters. This isn't right. I want a doggie and why must they be so expensive? No one is selling them here in the Bay Area.

I just don't want my husband to hurt the poor thing or be mean to it if I do get one. Men are so mean to pets for some reason.

I live in Mtn View and work in San Jose. I found that the shelters only have pitbulls. Not going for those sorry.

Last year, friends got a beautiful mini dachshund. He is wonderful and a beauty though he has grown into a larger than mini size. They are lapdogs and are really sweet.
The only thing that is negative is that he gets up on to the tables and barks at every dog that goes by the house. I live in the Russian River area 70 miles north of SF.
Before you surprise you hubby you should check out the breeder here.
ALSO they are very sensitive dogs and it would be terrible for you to get an animal that can't protect itself especially if you are afraid your husband would harm it. NOT A GOOD IDEA!. At least a pit would defend itself ...maybe. (I've had pits' and loved them)

OK WELL I DEFINATLY THINK GETTING A DOG IS A JOINT DECISION HOWEVER I REALY HOPE HE WOULDNT BE MEAN TO IT IF YOU WENT AGAINST HIS WISHES. ALSO I HAVE CREAM DACHSHUNDS BUT I LIVE IN WISCONSIN. I AM WILLING TO SHIP. SEE PICS AT CRIMSONMOONGIFTS.COM OR EMAIL ME. ONLY IF YOU WANT. I HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING TO SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO SAY(AND SOMETIMES IT IS SAID WITH VENOM) GO TO A SHELTER ALL THE TIME BUT WHEN YOU HAVE SMALL KIDS THIS IS NOT ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA EVEN THE PEOPLE AT THE SHELTER WILL TELL YOU THAT. I TRIED MANY TIMES TO GET A DOG FROM A SHELTER BEFORE FINALY GETTING ONE FROM A BREEDER. EVERYTIME I WAS TOLD NO BECAUSE I HAD SMALL KIDS AND THIS COULD BE POTENTIALY HAZARDOUS FOR THE CHILD BECAUSE YOU CANT BE 100% ABOUT THE BACKROUND. I DO THINK IF YOU CAN GO TO A SHELTER BUT AS I SAID THIS IS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE FOR EVERYONE. SO PLEASE CONSIDER THAT BEFORE YOU PUT A PERSON DOWN FOR WANTING TO BUY A DOG.ALSO DONT BASH THE POOR GUY FOR NOT WANTING A DOG HE LIVES IN THE HOUSE TOO! BOTH HAVE TO AGREE. RESPECT IS A 2 WAY STREET. DONT PUT UP WITH ABUSE BUT RESPECT OH AND BEGGING DOES HELP!SO DOES SEX!!

contact www.dachshundrescue.com and adopt a dog that really really needs a loving forever home.

This is your one and only life, it may be about sharing it with your husband but it is not about compromising on your love of animals.

Good luck.

Bring two or three home for a trial. Then, when you select only one, he'll be happy. But, can you resist keeping all of them.

Please use shelters and rescues to adopt dogs.

If your husband is mean to the dog then he shouldn't be around children either. Seriously.

Besides, once you adopt a dog you can tell your hubby that the dog is family, the hubby is just married into it.

Why??? You have a full time job?
Do you have time for a dog?
Dogs are high maintenance - you have to walk them, poop them and really take care of them.
Just because you want one is not a good reason, especially if you can't give them the proper attention during the day.
Will he be crated most of the day? What kind of life is that for a dog?

Also, men are not mean. We look at the whole picture - both good and bad, before we make a decision that is practical vs irrational.

First of all, look into the doggie activities in the Bay Area..there are OOOodles of them..go to akc.org, and follow the links to find the local dog clubs. contact your local 4-H to see what dog activities there are for your kids..there will be a Junior handler class for 4-H kids, as well as agility, and canine good citizenship, and yours are just the right age..Then find your doxie breeder ( I can help there if you email me)When you have all knowledge of your local dog activities, then its time to make some money. Sell collectible items on eBay, or clothing at a clothing consignment shop, dog walk for neighbors, or set your kids to pull weeds, or carry groceries, or what ever it is safe for kids to do in your area..the dog will run you about $600 and the upkeep will run about $400 per year..AFTER you have done this, and set the wheels in motion for your children's 4-H activities, then you can approach your husband with the info you have, and present it as a great 'sport' and family activity..And it really IS.
If he knows the dog's well-being is important to the success of the 4-H program, he may just soften enough, hoping that his kids are successful in their project...(read up on 4-H..it is VERY beneficial for any child, and good on their college entrance applications)
check out this form of dog activity too! > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlyN0L4IMck
I will really inspire doxie lovers.

Tell him that having a pet is good for your health. It is know that having a pet will lower bloodpressure. And if you have breaather trouble a chinninnnunna will help you breath better. Plus when he is gone you won't be loney.plus they great watch dogs. some dogs can tell yoiu when your going to get sick. they is a millon reason to have a dog. If you don't have kids they become your child. and if you have kids they can teach them respondable and they learn to love and care for God animals. God made the dog and if with on noak ark sience then man has made all kinds of dogs by mixing them. Good luck I hope you get your dog.

Of course don't get rid of your other pets, they are part of the family too. I'm sorry your husband is determined not to have one, but in a family everyone must agree before a new family member is brought home.

If money is the issue why not adopt a dog from a shelter. you may not find a mini red dashshund, but you will definitly find a great friend!

Are you serious? you don't talk him into anything. you just do it. where in the bay do you live? If you live near san jose- there is a pet shop in Campbell and Los Gatos that sells every kind of doggy you can think of. Except of course, pit bulls. them damn descriminists.

please go to your local shelter and adopt a mutt..
they are the best. they are healthy and very grateful for a loving home...do not keep the dog breeders or puppy mills in business. they are only interested in money! first thing to do is get rid of your husband. any man who does not love dogs,
has some major serious issues....a real man loves all animals.....
