About the same amount of time it takes in a large dog.
For God's sake, bury it.

If you are wondering this in order to save the dog overnight to have it cremated then don't worry about it. Wrap it in a blanket and place it in a very cool but not moist area and as soon as you can get it to a pet cemetary that cremates. Be sure to pick out a nice urn or container to store the remains once they are cremated. Some containers have framed areas to place a pet's photo.
I had to store my 15 1/2 yr old Chihuahua overnight last year until 7:30am the next morning. The pet cemetary had already closed its crematorium and informed me this was the safe & proper method to preserve the dog until then.
Sorry for the loss of your pet if this is the case.

However if this question is for any other reason then SHAME on YOU for wondering such a thing. Curiousity is one thing but anything more just comes off as being sick, morbid or creepy. It doesn't matter how long it takes, the dog is dead and needs to be handled like any other dead thing-
BURY or CREMATE IT but mercy don't watch it decompose!!

If your dog is dead, you should probably be doing something other than posting questions on Yahoo. You should be calling the Humane Society or your vet.
And please don't get another one. A dog lover wouldn't be able to see their keyboard through their tears if their dog died. The last thing they'd be worried about is rigor mortis.
