You have every right to be angry. He shouldn't have treated you that way. But your actions didn't help you at all. You punched him instead of walking away thanking God that you are not in his shoes. Sure, you may be justified in your actions but what did it prove?
You handed him a dollar (very graciously) and he was a smart-a$$ about it. You took that personally (kind of hard not to, 'eh?) but people who live that life are just hardened. Not that it makes it okay but that's just how it is.
By being angry enough to ask why all homeless people are that way...sounds like it made you a little hardened too.

Why are they so rude? I think the question you should be asking is why are you such a ****? He may have made some mistakes to get to where he is today but that gives you no right to judge him. He's going through a hard time. Maybe next time you see someone homeless you should attempt to help out a little instead of assuming he's a worthless bum. Picture yourself in his shoes. You lost your family, went into depression, lost your job. If people would focus more on helping out one another rather than thinking they are above them maybe the world would be a better place. Just remember What goes around comes around. Karma will eventually catch up with you.

For starters, you beat up a homeless bum? What kind of a man are you? He spit on you? So call the police and have him ARRESTED! What you did, was rude. More rude then what he did. He is probably, as you stated, a drunk and possibly a drug user. You had good intentions at the beginning but used poor judgment by beating him up. It doesn't make you a man by being able to beat "someones face in", but rather by being able to know you can and therefore not having to. I know, because I am a martial arts instructor and I would be ashamed if one of my students did this. Learn restraint and do the right thing. Call the cops. Maybe the detox and jail will give him time to dry out. But you need a lesson in anger management.

Well, first off, dont judge all the homeless on just one bad experience. Yes, they do need to get jobs, but they might have been broken by the weight of the world etc... They need to find hope somewhere. Beggars can't be choosers, so that guy you encountered was in the wrong that time. However if you give a little, maybe you can make a difference in someone's life.

i think you have made a sweeping generalization that is largely incorrect
sure, some homeless people are rude, or lazy, or drunks
but there are A LOT more who were down on their luck, and got laid off for something beyond their control- such as outsourcing.
i think you should just let it go because you are better than someone THAT rude. and i am glad you at least tried to be charitable and offer him a dollar, but dont let that bad experience stop you from being a good person in the future

Stop trying to use the internet to make yourself feel like a big strong man. You're not impressing people with this story. You're either under 16 years old or you're a yuppie little spoiled brat.
How bout you wear the same clothes, don't shower, and eat peoples scraps that you have to dig up...just do it for a week and then go on a job interview. See how you come out.
I'd bet more than anything you were either acting like you were better than him and that he was wasting your time from the second the whole scene started. That and I bet you thumbed around your pocket for your cash so that you wouldn't pull out more than a buck.
Grow up, you're no better than anyone.

Why do you think they are where they are. Some of these people don't care who they treat like crap but they still expect hand outs. One more thing..... you wrote " have a bath get a job and lay off the booze you bums ". Do you REALLY think that homeless people will see that comment. But if I see one I will let them know what you said.

Well, cause there homeless, most of them choose that lifestyle, no one to awnser to, not even you. I think they lack the drive for somthing better and get caught in a rut and don't know the steps to get out of it, so they do nothing instead.
