Who decided this? How the hell do they know?

Oh. Lol. Think I thought it was because there lives took so much longer than ours. Spend so much time worrying about my dog for the 4 hours I leave him on a Wednesday that it must seem like days to him!

It is a common belief that 1 human year is equal to 7 dog years. That is not very accurate, since dogs reach adulthood within the first couple of years. The formula used below is from a canine expert and is a bit more accurate. (as accurate as one can judge these things)

The formula is: 10.5 dog years per human year for the first 2 years, then 4 dog years per human year for each year after.

That is an excellent question! Unfortunately, I don't have an answer... The general idea behind it is compared to our lifespan and hormone developement, it would be 7 "dog years" to one human year but what I don't understand is why they didn't apply this concept to other animals? Like Hamsters or cats or snakes... Dogs aren't the only ones with shorter lifespans!! One flaw I have noticed with the dog year theory is when you have a dog who lives 15+ years, that'd mean they're 105+ in dog years... What human lives to be 105+? And I've met several dogs who lived anywhere from 15-22 years. It's not an anomaly!

I don't think a dog knows if you have been out 4 hours or 10 minutes it still wags the old tail .so don't worry!!

Its just a rough estimate of when they grow thorugh stages of their lives compared to humans. It certainly isn't very accurate and is different for different breeds.

Dont know who decided it , but think it is worked out at their maturity rate compared to humans also their life span .

lol its cause since dogs live shorter lives then us so they developed this system so whenever we counted how old a dog is that would be how old he would be as a human
