To never move forward

Well I am sure you know that dwell means live like your dwelling is your home. Okay so when you dwell in or on the past you are living much or most of your life on what was, what happened, what used to be instead of what is going on now right in front of you. Now this not paying attention to what is going on right in front of you usually has a good deal of figurative meaning in that you DO actually know these things but are not taking time to admire them and see them as good or useful things. Only rarely does this take on a literal meaning where you can be driving and not even realize you are heading into oncoming traffic. Anyway, you are concentrating on reliving or reminding yourself of the many things "that were so much better back then" and in reality you can do nothing anymore about the past. All you can do is fix what is still broken (like hurt relationships), try to learn from any mistakes AND any achievements you accomplished in the past so you can either avoid or continue the bad or good things. The worst thing most people find is that the blessings in their life that are there NOW are being ignored or that they have ignored them and now they are gone too and they never got the chance to enjoy or take advantange of the good things or blessings they had numerous chances of being a part of. When we get older and into our 60s 70s etc, we lose family, friends, possessions of sorts (your house, RV, etc if you are transfered to a Care Facility or Senior Home), and even in some cases, some of your freedoms like driving, money from working. All you have left really are memories which are ALL in the past. Then it is very easy to dwell in the past because there is nothing really exciting about living out your everyday life in the present NOW sense.

If you meant this question for Religion and Spirituality, I'd say to read books written thousands of years ago and think that they have something to say about science?

I suspect you meant it for Languages. In that case I would say it is a bit less about a refusal to move forward than it is about a focus on staying in a comforting history. It's the sense that what has happened means more than what is happening. You can dwell in the past while still accepting the modern world. In fact the Internet makes it easy to dwell in the past.

I think if you find yourself dwelling in the past, there is something there you need to account for. The longer you wait to reconcile whatever it is, the longer you will remain unproductive. Invite the Holy Spirit of God in and review it together.

To think and live only for the things that are already done. If you live in the past how will you ever enjoy the future.

To live in the past. To be thinking about the past so much you do not live in the present.

It means that a person is constantly thinking about something that already happened to them. They don't move on from the situation as they keep thinking about it and obsessing over it.

I believe strongly that to dwell in the past is living your entire life on the basis of what has happened in the past. What some don't know is the fact that they no longer live in the past but the present and must prepare for the future.
