Did you know that the cross was a phallic symbol? Why would any christian use this in their worship?

Greek dictionaries, lexicons and other study books also declare the primary meaning of stauros to be an upright pale, pole or stake. The secondary meaning of "cross" is admitted by them to be a "later" rendering. At least two of them do not even mention "cross," and only render the meaning as "pole or stake." In spite of this strong evidence and proof that the word stauos should have been translated "stake," and the verb stauroo to have been translated "impale," almost all the common versions of the Scriptures persist with the Latin Vulgate's crux (cross), a "later" rendering of the Greek stauros. I believe that Jesus died for our sins. The details are unimportant. I don't wear, nor do I pray to, a cross. Worshiping a cross is akin to idolatry which is forbidden.

Interesting question.

The fact remains that Jesus WAS crucified. There are many sources outside the Gospels that point to this. History accepts that the instrument used in crucifixion in most cases was a cross-shaped stake.

Just about ANYTHING can be a phallic symbol. Look at the Washington Monument.

We Christians use the cross as a SYMBOL, not as something to be worshipped.

I actually have a Bachelor's degree in faith. i've got been interpreting faith and the bible for some years, from a historic, cultural, social as nicely as theological attitude and that i can allow you recognize that in case you ought to bypass back in time and tell the memories approximately Jesus which you think to be real right this moment, the christians of 2000 years in the past might inspect you as in case you're insane. over the final 2000 years the bible has been rewritten this way of good form of cases that there is extremely little of this is unique meaning left. The ineffective Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Scrolls that have been got here upon interior the 1940's have been buried for those 2000 years and for this reason untouched and besides the fact that in the event that they have similarities with the coptic texts, quite often they tell an particularly distinctive tale.

The cross wasnt used because it was a phallic symbol it used because of the way it tortured the people who were on it. Nero later had christians crucified upside down, which is why the peace symbol is referred to as neros cross. Christians shouldnt be using the cross during worship at all, I think it says somewhere in the bible not worship idols.

If He died on a cross or a stake, that is not what is important. The fact that he died for our sins is the key. Either way He was crucified

I believe many people died on a cross including a normal man named Jesus.I know the cross was a phallic symbol. Christians use the cross for worship because it symbolizes his sacrifice to humanity.

And this is because the eye witnesses to the crucifixion were still alive when the gospels were written, and there was no doubt that "stauros" you speak of, had a horizontal "bar" attached to it, making it a cross.

It doesn't surprise me that the cross was a phallic symbol - they executed people on them, it wasn't meant to make them feel good about themselves or anything. It was meant to humiliate them.

Also, the cross became a symbol of christianity AFTER Jesus was exectued on it, not before. They worship it because Jesus died for their sins, not because it is phallic.

I'm an atheist, but as I understand it, there was a man called Jesus (it was a common name back then) who was crucified for proclaiming to be the son of God. Whether he actually was or not is the actual question...

Jesus died on the cross to save our sins. We aren't worshiping crosses! We only worship God.

No not everyone.

Lots of things are phallic symbols, and why should it suprise me if the cross was. It was a Roman punishment, it wasnt meant to be a nice thing.
